Closing Cases with the BBVLP

Have you closed an Extended Service Case with the BBVLP recently? Have you ever closed a case for the BBVLP? If so, we'd love to get your feedback on your experience. Disabled Client Needs Divorce Help
A disabled client's wife left him and has filed for divorce. She took all of their savings out of their joint bank account as well as their best working car when she deserted him. She is pressuring him to sell their marital home where he is living. The wife is asking for half of the household items and alimony. The client's only income is from disability.

Client and Deceased Brother Taken Advantage of by Family

The client was supposed to get his brother's house through his will. However, another brother got title by getting the incapacitated brother to sign over the deed on his deathbed. The client needs to open the estate and get the house that his brother wanted him to have.

Client Needs Help Adopting Cousin
The client has had custody of her cousin and has taken care of her for the past eight years. The mother is a drug addict and abandoned the child in 2007. The birth certificate does not list a father. Please help the client make the cousin a part of her family.

Woman Needs Help taking Care of Mentally Ill Aunt

The client needs help getting  a guardianship over her elderly aunt who is a paranoid schizophrenic. The client has been taking care of her aunt for more than fifteen years. The aunt is currently in Bryce Hospital. The client already has power of attorney but is required to get a guardianship so that she can help take care of her aunt when she gets out of the hospital.

Client Needs to File Bankruptcy to Help get Driver's License Back
The client was involved in a car accident in 2003. She is no longer working and is on a fixed income. She found out that her license was suspended because of a judgment against her stemming from the car accident. The client desperately needs her license so that she can go to doctor's appointments.

Unemployed Client Needs Bankruptcy Help
The client has been unemployed for the past year and is no longer able to make ends meet with her debt. The client is willing to sell her car to help pay off some of her debt but may also include it in the filing if she can't sell it.

Homeless Mother of Two Needs to Evict Fraudulent Tenants from Her Home
The client is a mother of two that owns a home. She moved out of the home two years ago. She recently tried to move back in but found that people are already living there. The tenants claim that they are paying rent to someone else. Jefferson County records show that the house is in the client's name. The client has been forced to live in a shelter with her two kids because she can't get into the home she owns.

Volunteer at a Help Desk

 

Please sign up for a Help Desk session on the BBVLP website. You can choose a two-hour time slot on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday. The Civil Help Desk meets on Monday and Thursday at the Jefferson County Courthouse; the Domestic Relations Help Desk meets every Wednesday at the Domestic Relations Courthouse.

Thank you to Pooja Chawla for closing an extended service divorce case. Mrs. Chawla helped a mother of two children get a Final Judgment of Divorce, sole custody, and child support.

Thank you to Brian D. Turner, Jr., Middle Mediation, for closing an extended service divorce case. Mr. Turner helped his client obtain a Final Judgment of Divorce as well as alimony despite facing difficulties in serving the ex-husband.

Thank you to Joshua L. Hornady, Sirote & Permutt, for closing an extended service property case. Mr. Hornady helped a client obtain a quick claim deed. The house had been in her deceased father's name. The client now has the house in her name.
