Sold for $60,000!

gavel  Sculptor Jim Sprankle throws his hands up in wonderment as DDWS Executive Director Birgie Vertesch announces that an anonymous donor won the live auction for his carving with a $60,000 bid at last Friday's inaugural Cuckoo for "Ding" Trailgate Party at the Refuge. The donor felt strongly that the mangrove cuckoo sculpture remain in the "Ding" Darling Education Center for the public to enjoy and requested that it stay with the Refgue.

A sold-out crowd of more than 270 guests enjoyed the live auction, a silent auction, live music, and food served from truck tailgates at the February 15 event, which raised nearly $100,000 to benefit both the Cuckoo research project and the Preservation Campaign to purchase the Woodring property and update the Education Center.  A BIG thank you to all our sponsors, donors, and volunteers for a terrific event!
