Keynote Speaker for Wednesday, September 28
Dr. Peter Mooney, PCRS
Industrial Thermoforming and the Evolving
Durable Goods Manufacturing Business
As the various durable goods manufacturing industries have grown and matured, plastics has steadily replaced metal, making products more light-weight, functional and user-friendly.

Heavy-gauge sheet thermoformers have played a major role in this transformation; however, they compete in all these markets: not only with metal fabricators, but also with alternative plastics processors capable of producing structural parts and final products - for example, composite part processors, industrial blow molders, injection molders and rotomolders - depending on part design complexity, volume of production, and so on. The recent and likely future pattern of inter-process competition will be addressed.

Dr. Peter Mooney is founder and president of Plastics Custom Research Services. He holds a bachelor's degree and a Ph.D. in economics, and he has over 30 years of experience conducting customized and multi-client research programs, identifying trends in the domestic and global plastics industry.

Peter is the author and publisher of the Plastics Processing Report Series covering all the major North American plastics processing businesses. Six of these reports deal with the industrial thermoforming business, and three deal with the packaging thermoforming business.

Peter has made several presentations, including keynote addresses, at previous SPE Thermoforming Conferences.
