Dr. Bell returns to the pulpit to explore Luke 16:19-31 - the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Music in worship includes Miller's Even Here in Living Water Worship at 9:00 am and Stroope's All Who Dwell in the Shadow of the Lord at 11:00 am Traditional Worship. Next Sunday, October 2
October 2 is World Communion Sunday. Children will stay in worship, within which communion will be served at both services. Donations toward the PC(USA) Peace and Global Witness Offering will be collected throughout October. This special offering enables the Presbyterian church to promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of injustice and allows us to strengthen peace-building efforts around the world bringing witness through Christ. A portion will be given to Wellshire ministry partner Central Visitation. Music in worship includes Tate's Ose Ayo in Living Water Worship at 9:00 am and Kirchner's Wana Baraka at 11:00 am Traditional Worship.
 
Great Dates
TONIGHT! Friday, September 23 @ 6:00 - 9:00 pm

It's back! Drop off children downstairs for free childcare, head to the Chapel for a 15-minute introduction to the topic of the evening, go on a date wherever you choose and discuss the topic, and then return to the church to pick up your kids. September topic: Love Languages. All couples invited; free childcare provided. If you have not yet already, RSVP for childcare to Jaime Martinez ASAP.

Blessing of the Animals

All animals are welcome to be blessed during worship at Wellshire's annual Blessing of
the Animals. This unique event honors St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the animals, and is an ideal, relaxed, and special opportunity for people to gather with their pets in an inclusive environment.

 Who doesn't love catching a sweet, warm-fuzzy kitty video on Facebook, or seeing their four-legged furry friends romp in the ocean's edge, or watching a baby goat bouncing around with such delight? And yet, is our relationship to them more than just what they provide in affection and wonder? Join Dee Cooper for a look at the relationship between people, other animals, and faith.

    • Clif'Notes Bible Study: Sundays at 9:55 am in Room 206 Leader: Clif Carey The class is designed such that each meeting is independent (as much as possible); there is no homework. We will learn about the city, society, and daily life of the people of Corinth and how they respond to Paul's message. Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters: Sunday, October 2 in the Fellowship Hall. Leader: Alzheimer's Association If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, it's time to learn the facts. Early detection of Alzheimer's disease gives you a chance to begin drug therapy, enroll in clinical studies, and plan for the future. This interactive workshop features video clips of people with Alzheimer's as a way to highlight the challenges they face every day.   • Join your Wellshire friends at the 2016 Step Up for Down Syndrome fundraiser and awareness walk at City Park on Sunday, September 25 at 9:00 am. Sign up on Team Macsovits. Entertainment, breakfast, and family activities follow the walk.
Sixth Day Lunch + Lecture
  • THURSDAY, October 13 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm | $5Wellshire is honored to host Debra Johnson, Denver Clerk and Recorder! Debra will share her first-hand experiences and explain the election process, zeroing in on current events within this election cycle. Don't miss this timely opportunity to learn from a local expert prior to casting your ballot. Please note that Sixth Day is now offered on the second THURSDAYS instead of Fridays.
Presbyterian Women of Denver
  • Presbyterian Women of Denver will present dramatist Bonnie DeLong in "The Samaritan Woman" on Saturday, October 8 from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm at their Fall Gathering at Peoples Presbyterian Church (2780 York Street, Denver). The $10 cost for lunch and the program is payable at the door. Hear the testimony of a woman, a Samaritan, whose life was forever changed by a Jewish man. A victim of prejudice and discrimination, she became a witness to an entire community, sharing the hope Jesus offered. RSVP by Wednesday, October 5 to Vicki Terry at 720-273-6870.

What does Kiva do? microfinance
Clean energy for the home, drilling wells, installing indoor plumbing, money to finish schooling or expand businesses: these are some of the life-changing improvements made possible by loans through Kiva. Wellshire's Kiva Microfinance lending committee will kick off the new program year on Sunday, October 2 at 12:30 pm. If you are interested in what we do but can't make our regular meetings, come join us this day as we invest money generously given to us by members of the congregation. Questions? Committee members Wes Smits, Curtis Roe, Consuelo Bennett, or Bill Strickland are happy to fill you in.

Care for Children
Help Wellshire's dedicated childcare staff look after our youngest members on Sunday mornings. Sign up via the Signup Genius link here. Volunteers lend a hand to Wellshire's childcare staff on Sunday mornings; you don't have to be an expert on kids to have fun with them! Contact Jaime Martinez with questions by email  or at ext. 111. The two shifts run 9:00 am-10:30 am and 10:30 am- 12:00 pm on Sunday mornings; adult volunteers are required to be 18 years or older, though youth 13 and older may assist. If you're a youth and you'd like to get involved, please contact Jaime directly. Thank you so much!

Order Evergreen Wreaths wreaths
Starting Next Sunday, October 2: Support Wellshire Youth Mission Trips and deck out your house with the Youth Holiday Evergreens fundraiser. Place your orders between October 2 and 30; stop by the youth table outside of both worship venues after worship on October 2 and October 23. Forms will be available at the youth table, the reception desk, and online. October 30 is the last day to place an order. Your evergreens will be available for pick up on November 20 during Wellshire's annual Alternative Christmas Market at the youth table. Proceeds from the sales will go towards the High School's Mission Trip in June.

Race for Research Recap
This year was the Best Race for Research ever with 1,079 registered participants and over $92,000 raised for cancer research. Thanks to everyone who turned out!

 
These Days
The October-December 2016 edition of These Days Daily Devotionals is available in the Adult Education Suite and outside both worship venues. Take one to enrich your daily devotional time. The devotions are written by clergy and lay leaders and include an action step for each daily entry that enables readers to apply what they've read to their lives. Large print copies are also available.

Parking
The parking lot for the Robinson Law Building (which flanks the north side of the north parking lot) has been chained off for your safety as it is dangerous to park there. Please feel free to park at the Wellshire Professional Office Building and the MidFirst Bank on the southwest corner of Colorado and Amherst.
 
South Entrance Closed
Wellshire's roof is currently receiving repairs, so the solar panels have been removed and placed within a fenced-in area near the Cornell Avenue entrance. Please use another entrance until the roof repairs finish. 

Door Code
Please note that the access code for the exterior doors at Wellshire has changed; if you visit the church outside of typical office hours, please contact Kris to receive the new code by email or ext. 230.
