The mission of Wellshire Church is to seek, embrace, and nurture disciples within a community of hope that plays together, sings of God's glory, and celebrates Jesus Christ through service.
This Sunday, November 30: First Sunday of Advent

This Sunday, the Rev. Dr. John H. Bell, Jr. makes a surprise return to the pulpit.  The Rev. Katie Robb Davis had been scheduled to preach, but she and her husband welcomed their baby boy, Coulter John Davis, into the world a little earlier than anticipated on Friday, November 21!  Katie takes maternity leave until March.

Thus, Dr. Bell preaches on Mark 13:24-37 on this first Sunday of Advent; communion is celebrated at both services, and we light the Advent candle of Hope. Please note that all children will remain in worship for both services and that passing of the peace during worship is on hiatus until flu season has passed.

Click here for the 11:00 am Order of Worship.

Next Sunday, December 7: Second Sunday of Advent

We light the candle of Joy on December 7.  The annual Festival of Carols will be featured at Traditional Worship at 11:00 am.

Classes through December 21 adventclasses

  • The Journey: An Advent Study: Please join us for this five-week Advent study based on Adam Hamilton's book and video series The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem.  We will use Hamilton's videos to locate us on the road from Nazareth to Bethlehem while also calling on others' voices - and our own - for commentary as a people trying to follow God on our own spiritual journeys.  We will focus each week on a key interaction between characters in this story we know as Advent and Christmas:  Mary and Gabriel, Joseph and the angel who speaks to him in his dreams, Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph on the road to Bethlehem, and the shepherds in the fields surrounding Bethlehem.  Come take a journey through Scripture, seeing the story anew.  Leader: Rev. Katie Palmer
  • Handel's MESSIAH for Advent: The man - the music - the scripture - the sunglasses! Come for some Advent Sunday fun with part 1 of the oratorio, MESSIAH.  Books for the study are available at the reception desk for $12.  Leader: Forrest Guittar

A PRAYER FOR BANGLADESH bangladesh

24 November 2014

Holy and merciful God, we pray for Mintu, a 28-year-old husband and father who, with thin, twisted legs, sits all day on a footbridge spanning a crowded, noisy, and exhaust-filled intersection in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  He had worked as a bus driver until five years ago, when, just after his daughter was born, an illness left him paralyzed from the waist down.  Now Mintu's wife works in a garment factory, while his father carries him each day to the footbridge to beg and meanwhile cares for the couple's daughter at home.  Lord, only you can comprehend the depth of Mintu's anguish.  Speak to him your holy words of comfort, and reveal to him your mercy and steadfast love.  We pray in the name of the Christ, the Compassionate One.  Amen.

Notes from the Presbytery presbytery

Making Connections for Peace in the Season of Advent! The angels' song of "peace on earth" can seem distant and far from reality, yet people of faith continue to make it resound again in our world. Recently the Presbytery of Denver Council voted to send the Presbytery's portion of the Peacemaking Offering to Building Bridges. The donation will go directly toward covering the costs of young women from Israel, Palestine, and the U.S. to participate in the Building Bridges programs that promote understanding and transformation. As they come face to face, they develop personal connections based on empathy and respect and acquire the communication and leadership skills necessary to address the root causes of hate, discrimination, and violent conflict.  Through our giving in the Presbytery of Denver, we are connected with the real work of peacemaking.
