Wellshire eNews
The mission of Wellshire Church is to seek, embrace, and nurture disciples within a community of hope that plays together, sings of God's glory, and celebrates Jesus Christ through service.
This Sunday, August 24 this

Dr. Bell is scheduled to preach on August 24 on the very interesting and controversial topic of The Second Coming of Christ (Revelation 19:11-16). We often speak of his return in our creeds and casual conversation, but what, if anything, does this have to do with us?  Click here for the Order of Worship.

This Sunday, third graders will receive a Bible as a gift from the congregation during worship.  After the service, the third graders will attend a Bible workshop led by Dr. Holly Inglis with their families in Fellowship 2.  Families will open the Bibles, learn how to read them and how the Bible works, and find out some cool things about our new Bibles - together.

A congregational meeting is called after worship for this Sunday, August 24 in the Sanctuary to receive the fiscal year 2015 budget.

Next Sunday, August 31

In the final sermon of the Apocalypse WOW series, the Rev. Katie Robb Davis will explore the final chapters of the Revelation to John, which provide a vision of hope for a new heaven, a new earth, and a new Jerusalem.  What might heaven look like to you?  How do we live into the hope of God making all things new?  The specific texts are Revelation 21:1-4, 22:1-5.  August 31 will be the final Sunday that one summer worship service at 10:00 am on Sunday mornings is offered in the Sanctuary.

Soprano Stephanie Ann Ball and her accompanist, baritone Tom Sitzler, join us in worship next week as guest musicians.  Stephanie will be singing historic spiritual arrangements by William Grant Still, Moses Hogan, Hall Johnson, and H. T. Burleigh.  Read more about Stephanie here.

Worship Times: 9:00 am & 11:00 am
Join us in worship as the new program year begins on Jubilee Sunday!

Living Water worship is designed to engage the senses, incorporating contemporary worship styles with praise music led by the Celebration Singers choir and Confluence instrumental ensemble.  The more casual of our two services, it is offered in the Chapel at 9:00 am.

Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary at 11:00 am rejoices the living Lord using the same order of worship - litany, scripture, and hymns - as the reformed Presbyterian Church has used since the 16th Century. A Casavant pipe organ accompanies the 60-voice Sanctuary Choir, complemented by Steinway and Yamaha grand pianos.

God enters our lives in as many ways as there are moments in a day:  folding laundry, driving to work, rejoicing in song, making plans for the day with your spouse.  Coffey pushes us to gain greater awareness and appreciation for the idea that "what is human is holy and... what seems insignificant is bathed in divinity."

Contact Tegan Palmer or Michael Pohlenz.  Sanctuary Choir singers are welcome to join this group as well!

ABOUT STEPHANIE ANN BALL stephanie

A performer from the get-go, Stephanie's musical parents introduced her to everything from funk to gospel to classical at an early age.  When she began studying voice in high school, she found her musical niche.  A favorite of St. Louis audiences, Stephanie has appeared in many operas and oratorios including Annina in Winter Opera St. Louis's production of La Traviata, and a soloist in Mozart's Requiem with the Bach Society of St. Louis.  She is equally comfortable on the recital stage and frequently performs African American spirituals with passion and sensitivity.  Matt Daniels of Tavern of Fine Arts in St. Louis says this of her singing: "She... is able to express its meaning to an audience through both the agility of her voice and dramatic movement that can encompass her entire body..." Offstage, Ms. Ball continually makes an effort to introduce opera to her community and has done educational outreach with several companies.  Now residing in Denver, CO, Stephanie looks forward to presenting a solo recital program through Denver's A.R.I.A. Chamber Ensemble.  This season, she will be presenting a Spirituals Concert at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver, and singing the role of Nedda in Mid-Ohio Opera's production of Il Pagliacci.

Notes from the Presbytery presbytery

Make Connections!  The scarcity of and need for water are critical issues in Colorado.  Those local issues may be a reason why seven churches in Denver Presbytery have formed partnerships that address those same needs in the wider, global community.  Although concerned about people half a world apart, both the Guatemala and Connecting Mission Partnerships share a passion to see that women, men, and children everywhere have safe drinking water.  The Guatemala Mission Partnership that includes Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Montview Blvd., First Englewood, and St. Andrew Churches connects with the villages and Presbyterian churches in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala.  Its work enables water filtration systems to be installed and maintained.  Bringing clean water to remote schools administered by the Presbytery of Zimbabwe is the priority of Connecting Mission Partnership.  It is the commitment of St. James, Green Mountain, and First Littleton Churches.   Both of these mission partnerships are supported by mission giving from Presbytery of Denver congregations and connect us all with the work of enabling life-giving water to flow.
