The mission of Wellshire Church is to seek, embrace, and nurture disciples within a community of hope that plays together, sings of God's glory, and celebrates Jesus Christ through service.

This Sunday, July 20
Rev. Katie Robb Davis will preach on the letter to the Church in Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17), which was a center of the Roman Imperial cult. How are we called to witness to Jesus Christ in the midst of a culture that asks us to worship many other things? The Sanctuary Choir shares Courtney's One Faith, One Hope, One Lord as the anthem and Hairston's In Dat Great Gettin' Up Mornin' as the offertory. Click here for the Order of Worship.

Next Sunday, July 27
The sizzling summer series continues. Dr. Bell will preach on the important topic of toleration, as the Church in Thyatira struggled with that issue, as well. The sermon text is Revelation 2:18-28. Next Sunday will be Kira Stringer's first Sunday with Wellshire as the new Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults.

This is a fun run/walk for all ages held annually in memory of Michele Plachy Rubin, a lifetime member of Wellshire. Michele, a young wife, mother, and kindergarten teacher, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. Michele fought bravely but lost her battle in 17 months. Her friends and family started the race to raise money for brain cancer research. Over 1,000 participants are expected to support the event again this year. To register, pick up a form today in the Narthex, register online, visit Runner's Roost stores between August 1 and 9. Sign up, get your free shirt, and then bring mom, dad, the kids, and your dog (on a leash) to join the fun (which includes a free pancake breakfast and a beer garden) as we honor Michele and others through the fight against cancer.

Click here to read an up-to-date progress report -- we've already received $30,000 in donations of the $50,000 needed! Click here to give (select "New Playground" from the dropdown menu).
This new playground will replace our current one, which is 20 years old and not compliant with current safety standards. It will be safer, offer more age-appropriate activities to Wellshire Church children and PDO attendees, and provide visual evangelism to the many new families moving into the Wellshire neighborhood.

Beyond Wellshire Walls: Mission and Service
FAMILY HOMESTEAD WORKDAY: AUGUST 9, 2014
Wellshire Church is a long-time supporter of Family HomeStead, a local organization that provides emergency and transitional housing to homeless families in the Denver metro area. In addition, Family HomeStead provides counseling and an individualized case plan for each client family that supports the family as they journey toward greater self-sufficiency.
Family HomeStead now owns or leases over 100 housing units and serves roughly 1500 people a year. Each time a housing unit turns over to a new client family, Family HomeStead cleans and paints the unit's interior. This work is performed by volunteers from various business, professional, and church organizations.

A PRAYER FOR BANGLADESH
7 July 2014
Gracious God, we pray for the thirty men, women and children from the village of Astapukur in northwest Bangladesh who last week became sick from food poisoning. Sixteen required hospitalization because of dehydration. The epidemic began after a summer wedding feast at the village, which has no refrigeration and where food is prepared on straw mats and dishes are washed in a communal pond. Few of the villagers have access to water-sealed, sanitary latrines. Lord, comfort those who are ill and help them fully recover, and grant the people of Astapukur the ability to prevent such outbreaks in the future. In the name of Christ the Redeemer we pray. Amen.
