This Sunday, May 26: Wellshire Summer Worship Schedule Starts!

During the summer (May 26 - September 1), Wellshire Presbyterian Church offers one summer worship service. It is at 10:00 am on Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary. The service order is a standard Presbyterian form, but the worship leaders will engender a bit more of a casual style of worship leadership, appropriate for the summer months in Colorado.

Childcare available:
May 26 and July 7 @ 9:45 - 11:15 am
June 2 - June 30, July 14 @ 8:45 am - 11:15 am

July 21 - September 1 @ 9:45 - 11:15 am

Wellshire celebrates Trinity Sunday this Sunday; Dr. Bell preaches on Romans 5, and the Sanctuary Choir provides Holy, Holy, Holy as arranged by Gary Fry as the Anthem and Reconciliation from Dona Nobis Pacem by Ralph Vaughan Williams as the Offertory. Click here for this week's Order of Worship.

Next Sunday, June 2

The lectionary readings for June 2 are 1 Kings 18:20-21, 30 -39; Galatians 1:1-12; and Luke 7:11-17.  Dr. Bell preaches; the Sanctuary Choir shares O Sing unto the Lord by Peter Aston and Precious Lord, Take My Hand, arranged by Jack Schrader.

LOCAL SERVICE MINISTRY TEAMS IN THE GARDEN

Stop by the Memorial Garden and Narthex on June 2 to learn more about Wellshire's Local Service Ministry partners.  Local Ministry Team members will be available to answer questions about support and partner agencies; learn about new hands-on opportunities to help in the community and find out more about the organizations aided by Wellshire's donations.

HUM: Wellshire's Hymnal Update Mission whyhymnal

235 HYMNALS PURCHASED TO DATE!

Thanks to the many members and friends of Wellshire who have contributed to Wellshire's Hymnal Update Mission! Each gift moves our church closer to a congregational collection of 650 new red hymnals and licensed electronic formats. If you have not yet undergirded Wellshire's music and worship legacy, you may click here to purchase online through the Wellshire website via a credit card.  Donors are not limited to just one hymnal but may purchase as many as they like for $20/each.  If you prefer to purchase with a check or cash, submit this tear-off sheet with a check - with "in memory" or "in honor" designation included - to the church at the attention of Kris Griffith.

Why is there a need for a new hymnal?

    • Worship styles have evolved within the denomination since our current hymnal was published in 1990. The new hymnal gathers both traditional and contemporary styles, reducing cost for congregations by collecting the wide variety of musical styles found in modern worship into a single volume.
    • The new hymnal includes most of the hymns found in the 1990 hymnal (as well as some "old favorites" not included in that edition), many frequently used contemporary choruses, and a variety of music reflecting the diversity found in the global church.  A complete Table of Contents can be found here.
    • Our purchase includes not only the physical hymnals but also rights to an online hymnal, a projection edition for use in worship, and an eBook format.

HUM: It's a collaborative effort!  Click the image below to play the video.  hum

This Sunday, HUM begins: join the Wellshire musicians in taking the brand-new PCUSA Hymnal, Glory to God, for a test drive this Sunday! Both services will feature selections from across the spectrum of the new hymnal. Find out how HUM - the Hymnal Update Mission

- will musically move Wellshire into the future of worship. The new hymnal will be at Wellshire this fall.

Youth Mission Trip 2013! chicago

This summer, from June 8 to 15, Wellshire High School Youth will journey to Chicago to serve and work with a variety of urban non-profits through DOOR Ministries.

NO MAY 26 MISSION TRIP MEETING
Due to the Memorial Day holiday, as well as finals and graduation parties, we have cancelled the mission trip meeting this Sunday.  We'll see you at 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 2 for the final meeting before Chicago!

RELOADABLE KING SOOPERS CARDS HELP SEND WELLSHIRE YOUTH TO CHICAGO TO SERVE

One of the easiest ways to help send Wellshire Youth on the 2013 Chicago Mission Trip is to purchase King Soopers cards sold in the Narthex on Sundays and use them every shopping trip. 5% of every purchase made with the cards at King Soopers goes directly to the youth mission trip fund. For instance, a family that spends $400 monthly in groceries contributes $20 monthly to the mission trip fund; by June, that's $120 just one family has contributed to feeding, clothing, and housing another family. The youth are selling $10 RELOADABLE cards that anyone can buy and continue reloading at the King Soopers' customer service desk. Those who purchased cards in previous years from the youth can still use those cards, provided that the card hasn't had a balance of $0 for 90 days. It can be reloaded unlimited times, and funds continue to go to the youth mission effort with each use. If you don't know if you let the card go empty for 90 days, you're welcome to purchase a new one.

Questions?  Contact Lauren Wiersma, Student Youth Pastor, by email or at 720-327-3116 or Jessica Dixon, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, by email or at 720-427-9239. Thanks for your awesome support of Wellshire Youth!

SUMMER CHRISTIAN ED OPTIONS

Starting Monday, June 3: The Gospel According to Pixar pixar

The Gospel According to Pixar: Beginning with Toy Story in 1995, Pixar Animation Studios has taken American cinema by storm, setting a new standard of excellence in animated filmmaking and earning a fortune in the process. Their movies are both highly entertaining and surprisingly wise, displaying an all-too-rare gift for telling stories which speak about the reality of life and the complexities of the human heart - and making us laugh while doing so. The Gospel According to Pixar looks at how each Pixar film portrays the basic concerns of everyday life and seeks to connect them with a Christian understanding of the world. It touches on themes such as love, identity, fear, freedom, guilt, purpose, and belonging - to name just a few. The Gospel According to Pixar explores these common concerns in hopes of communicating the Gospel in a fresh, persuasive and, above all, fun way.  This study, led by Jenni Salisbury, will meet every Monday evening in June from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Adult Ed suite.

Please note 9:45 am Sunday classes are on hiatus until Jubilee Sunday (Sunday, September 8).
