This Sunday, May 19: Pentecost Sunday
This Sunday, Wellshire marks Pentecost, the "birthday" of the church. Dr. Bell preaches, focusing on Acts 2:1-21. This year's Pentecost Offering benefits the Zimbabwe Mission Partnership. Gratitude for the efforts of the Sanctuary Choir, Celebration Ringers, and Sound Seekers will be shared at the 11:00 am service. At that service, the Sanctuary Choir will sing Whitsunday Hymn by Ralph Vaughan Williams for the Anthem and Hymn to the Holy Spirit by Randolph Currie for the Offertory. Click here for the Order of Worship for this Sunday.
Also on Sunday, please welcome Kirill Goncharenko, Director of Music Ministries at Golgotha Baptist Church in Moscow, Russia. In Wellshire's partnership with Golgotha, we seek to develop an understanding of each other's congregations and develop Christian relationships between our members through mutual sharing and support for each other's ministries. Kirill will be sharing his musical talents with us during both of our worship services. Kirill speaks fluent English, so please take the opportunity to greet him with some wonderful Wellshire hospitality and Christian fellowship.
THANK YOU, WELLSHIRE EDUCATORS
How many Presbyterians does it take to nurture a child's faith? No joke! It takes the prayers of a whole congregation and the time, energy, creativity, and imagination of dedicated volunteers who teach, lead, play and pray with our children and youth. It takes adults who are willing to lead other adults in study and spiritual growth, equipping parents to be their child's primary teacher and nurturing the congregation to love and support our youngest members. This Sunday, we express our gratitude to the many dedicated Christian education volunteers who gave of their time this year: Nursery volunteers, children, youth and adult Sunday School teachers, Confirmation mentors, youth sponsors, Children & Worship leaders, members of the Children & Family Committee and the Adult Education Committee, Praise Pak volunteer, and Sunday School Saints. So how many Presbyterians does it take to nurture a child's faith? Lots! And we're grateful for each one!
PENTECOST OFFERING
Giving to the Pentecost Offering makes it possible for the church to encourage, develop, and support its young people and address the needs of at-risk children. Please make a one-time donation on your credit card here.

Next Sunday, May 26: Wellshire Summer Worship Schedule Starts!
During the summer (May 26 - September 1), Wellshire Presbyterian Church offers one summer worship service. It is at 10:00 am on Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary. The service order is a standard Presbyterian form, but the worship leaders will engender a bit more of a casual style of worship leadership, appropriate for the summer months in Colorado. Childcare available:
May 26 and July 7 -- 9:45 - 11:15 am (Holiday weekends)
June 2 - June 30, July 14 -- 8:45 am - 11:15 am (To accommodate 9:00 am Adult Education)
July 21 - September 1 -- 9:45 - 11:15 am SUMMER EDUCATION SERIES OPTIONS Psummer with Psalms: Psalms: Prayers of the Heart by Eugene Peterson explores Psalms 1, 2, 3, 8, 51, 103, 23, 137, 6, 73, 90, 150. You may wish to use this guide to study individually, or you may join a team of facilitators for Psummer with Psalms on six Sundays to explore the power and passion of the Psalms with other adults. Psummer with Psalms will meet at 9:00 am in Room 208 beginning Sunday, June 2 and concluding Sunday, July 14 (excluding Sunday, July 7). Psalms: Prayers of the Heart will be available for purchase beginning Sunday, May 19. Cost for the study guide is $8.00 and may be purchased in the Narthex and outside the Chapel after each worship service. Please contact Dr. Holly Inglis with any questions.

The Gospel According to Pixar: Beginning with Toy Story in 1995, Pixar Animation Studios has taken American cinema by storm, setting a new standard of excellence in animated filmmaking and earning a fortune in the process. Their movies are both highly entertaining and surprisingly wise, displaying an all-too-rare gift for telling stories which speak about the reality of life and the complexities of the human heart - and making us laugh while doing so. The Gospel According to Pixar looks at how each Pixar film portrays the basic concerns of everyday life and seeks to connect them with a Christian understanding of the world. It touches on themes such as love, identity, fear, freedom, guilt, purpose, and belonging - to name just a few. The Gospel According to Pixar explores these common concerns in hopes of communicating the Gospel in a fresh, persuasive and, above all, fun way. This study, led by Jenni Salisbury, will meet every Monday evening in June from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Adult Ed suite.

HUM: Wellshire's Hymnal Update Mission
As explained in worship on April 28, the Session has approved purchase of the new Glory to God Presbyterian Hymnal, which will be available this fall. Congregation members are urged to participate in the purchase of 650 copies for congregational use at the rate of $20/each. They may be purchased "in memory of" or "in honor of" someone dear to the buyer, and a bookplate reflecting the name(s) requested will be placed in each hymnal prior to their distribution in the Chapel and Sanctuary. Donors are not limited to just one hymnal but may purchase as many as they like for $20/each. Click here to purchase online through the Wellshire website via a credit card. If you prefer to purchase with a check or cash, a tear-off sheet for hymnal orders will be available in the bulletin for several weeks, or a check - with "in memory" or "in honor" designation included - may be sent directly to the church at the attention of Kris Griffith.
Why is there a need for a new hymnal?
- A new hymnal for the Presbyterian Church (USA) was authorized in 2006 by the 217th General Assembly. Presbyterians from around the world applied for membership on the New Hymnal Committee, and 15 were chosen representing pastors, musicians, and laity. The fruit of their labor, the new Presbyterian Hymnal entitled Glory to God, will be published in the fall of 2013. The Wellshire Session recently approved purchase of these new hymnals at the recommendation of the Worship Committee.
- Worship styles have changed within the denomination since the present hymnal was published in 1990. The new hymnal was created to better codify hymns of both traditional and contemporary styles into a single volume, thereby assisting local congregations in the selection of music for worship and reducing cost by collecting the wide variety of musical styles found in modern worship into a single volume.
- The new hymnal includes the following: most of the hymns found in the 1990 hymnal, some "old favorites" that are not in the 1990 hymnal, some contemporary choruses that have evolved into common use, and a variety of hymns and songs that reflect the diversity found in the global church. A complete Table of Contents can be found here. Answers to questions regarding editorial practice for the new hymnal can also be found on that website.
- In addition to the red hymnals to be purchased for use in the Chapel and Sanctuary, the new hymnal will be available in three electronic forms: 1) as an online hymnal for viewing on a computer, 2) in a projection edition for use in worship services, and 3) in an eBook form. The editors have ensured that their new hymnal will be readily accessible in this digital age.
HUM: It's a collaborative effort! Click the image below to play the video.
This Sunday, HUM begins: join the Wellshire musicians in taking the brand-new PCUSA Hymnal, Glory to God, for a test drive this Sunday! Both services will feature selections from across the spectrum of the new hymnal. Find out how HUM - the Hymnal Update Mission - will musically move Wellshire into the future of worship. The new hymnal will be at Wellshire this fall.

Youth Mission Trip 2013!
This summer, from June 8 to 15, Wellshire High School Youth will journey to Chicago to serve and work with a variety of urban non-profits through DOOR Ministries.
MISSION TRIP MEETING
Mission Trip participants and sponsors will meet as a group for the first time the evening of this Sunday, May 19 at 4:00 pm. This first meeting will be to introduce us all to each other and to familiarize ourselves with what we will be doing in Chicago. This first meeting is for the participants primarily, and we may have packing lists, release forms, and other documents to pass out that night (probably as one big packet), but this meeting is not a parent informational one. That will come later.
HELP NEEDED SERVING DINNER
The Mission Trip team has been invited to help serve dinner to the meeting of Denver Presbytery that will take place at Wellshire the evening of Tuesday, May 28. If you are able to help out with setup, serving in various ways, and/or clean up (probably a total time of from 4:00 to 7:30 pm), please email Jessica. We can use both youth and parents for this event in whatever time capacity you are able to serve.
RELOADABLE KING SOOPERS CARDS HELP SEND WELLSHIRE YOUTH TO CHICAGO TO SERVE One of the easiest ways to help send Wellshire Youth on the 2013 Chicago Mission Trip is to purchase King Soopers cards sold in the Narthex on Sundays and use them every shopping trip. 5% of every purchase made with the cards at King Soopers goes directly to the youth mission trip fund. For instance, a family that spends $400 monthly in groceries contributes $20 monthly to the mission trip fund; by June, that's $120 just one family has contributed to feeding, clothing, and housing another family. The youth are selling $10 RELOADABLE cards that anyone can buy and continue reloading at the King Soopers' customer service desk. Those who purchased cards in previous years from the youth can still use those cards, provided that the card hasn't had a balance of $0 for 90 days. It can be reloaded unlimited times, and funds continue to go to the youth mission effort with each use. If you don't know if you let the card go empty for 90 days, you're welcome to purchase a new one.
Questions? Contact Lauren Wiersma, Student Youth Pastor, by email or at 720-327-3116 or Jessica Dixon, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, by email or at 720-427-9239. Thanks for your awesome support of Wellshire Youth!
