SEPTEMBER 2016
Greetings!

As a new school year begins, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is pleased to work with students and educators all across the Commonwealth to promote "A Vision for a More Inclusive Virginia."

That's the theme of our 20/20 Campaign, an effort that runs from August 20 - September 20 and asks supporters to donate $20 or more in support of VCIC's work.  Please donate today to support VCIC's award-winning and critical work!

This update includes details about upcoming VCIC programs, many local and national resources, and an organizational update.  As you continue planning for the 2016-2017 school year, please let us know how VCIC can partner with you.  Contact our office by phone at (804) 515-7950 or by emailing Charm Bullard (Director of Education), Jessica Hawthorne (Director of Programs), Meriel Martinez (Education & Training Coordinator), or Jonathan Zur (President & CEO).

We look forward to working with you!
Welcome New VCIC Staff

Please extend a warm welcome to two new VCIC staff members!  Charm Bullard started as Director of Education on August 16, joining VCIC from the University of Richmond.  Lenore Andrews starts September 1 as Director of Development, bringing 16 years of experience at the Virginia College Fund.
Calendar of Holidays & Festivals: 2016-2017

VCIC's Calendar of Holidays and Festivals is a resource designed to encourage public awareness of the great diversity of religious and ethnic groups that live in the United States.  Holidays and festivals are included for many religious, ethnic, and public occasions.  Educators may find the calendar particularly helpful as it identifies opportunities for objective, non-creedal instruction about particular cultures.
Hear the Syracuse 8 on 10/6

St. Christopher's School and VCIC invite the community to "Journeys to Manhood," featuring members of the Syracuse 8.  VCIC President & CEO Jonathan Zur will moderate the panel with members of this historic team.  This 7:00pm program is free and open to the public.
Attend the 3rd annual Eastern Virginia Regional Diversity & Inclusion Conference on 10/13

The Hampton Roads Diversity & Inclusion Consortium and VCIC are pleased to invite business and community leaders to attend the 3rd annual Diversity and Inclusion Conference!
