Greetings!

Just four months into the current fiscal year, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities is breaking all past records in terms of the number of requests we are receiving for programs and the number of people we are reaching.  In the midst of an incredibly busy fall, it is helpful to pause and reflect on a few of the many recent reminders of how VCIC is making a difference:

  • Bonner Scholar interns Elizabeth Leggett and Alivia Pinnix shared moving remarks at the recent VCIC Richmond Humanitarian Awards Dinner about their 4 years with our organization.
  • When a college experienced a racially charged incident at the start of the school year, they called VCIC.  Similarly, when a school division wanted to more effectively address incidents of bullying, they engaged us for student programs, educator professional development, and parent workshops.
  • VCIC program alumni are implementing new programs, activities, and policy changes in their schools to reduce gaps and increase climates of understanding.
  • And, for the third year in a row, VCIC has been named one of the "Top Rated Nonprofits" in the country by GreatNonprofits!

As always, please let us know how VCIC can partner with you to build more inclusive, affirming, and just school communities.  Contact our office by phone at (804) 515-7950 or by emailing Allison Conyers, Vice President of Programs, Jessica Hawthorne, Youth Program Coordinator, or Jonathan Zur, President & CEO.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Educational Equity Initiative

The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities' Educational Equity Initiative develops educational stakeholders who are passionate, committed, and prepared to lead efforts to eliminate disparities based on race, national origin, and socio-economic status in all areas of school life and academic achievement. Through interactive and engaging workshops, participating educators learn about how bias and prejudice affect schools, learning, and teaching, while developing strategies for creating more supportive learning environments.  Such programming is built off of the premise that the process of institutional transformation of our educational system must begin with a process of personal transformation on the part of the individual stakeholders within that system.

Contact Allison Conyers, Vice President of Programs, to learn more about bringing the Educational Equity Initiative to your school!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALLISON & JESSICA
