Turf Diseases

Weather conditions are ideal for turf disease problems. High daytime temperatures, high humidity and high nighttime temperatures all help in promoting disease problems in lawns. Dollar spot, Red thread, and Necrotic ring spot all continue to show up in lawns. Light daily midday Irrigation will help reduce stress on turf and can help reduce disease problems. Refrain from nighttime watering which can also promotes disease problems.
White Moths

Adult Sod Webworm

If you're walking through your lawn and you see small white or tan moths flying around your lawn, it is most likely the adult stage (see below) of the sod webworm. Sod webworm larvae usually do not cause visible damage in irrigated lawns kept at the proper height. As long as you follow recommended cultural practices, you shouldn't have to worry about these insects.

For bluegrass lawns, proper mowing height is 2 1/2" - 3". During the hot summer months, you should be watering daily.
Yellow trees?

Chlorosis is a condition in which a tree cannot manufacture chlorophyll because of a poor root system or nutrient deficiency in the soil, causing the leaves to fade to yellow. Several factors can lead to a weak root system; including soil compaction, low fertility, restricted root zone, drought, or improper planting. High soil pH can also prevent trees from being able to absorb nutrients. A lack of iron and manganese most often contributes to chlorosis. Either the root system is too unhealthy to absorb these nutrients or the soil lacks having these nutrients available to the plant altogether.

If you think your trees are suffering from chlorosis, or just struggling in general, give our office a call!

Rain Sensor

Sprinklers running in the rain
If you have a sprinkler system that doesn't have a rain sensor, you could be wasting water by watering when your lawn doesn't need it. With the cost of water going higher each year, installing a rain sensor to your irrigation system makes sense. At a cost of only $120.00 installed this can save you money in the long run. Call our office to schedule to have a sensor installed!

Sincerely,
