Spring Crabgrass Pre-Emergent Application - Round 1
We have begun our first round of fertilizer/crabgrass pre-emergent. Depending on weather conditions, we should finish this round up by about mid-May. This is a crabgrass pre-emergent application and does not contain weed control. Our second round application contains weed control and will be done about 5-6 weeks after your first application. If you received our fall weed control application last season, that should control the weeds that would normally be popping up in the spring until your first weed control application this season. If you are a new customer and did not receive our weed control application, we are aware of this and will do our best to move you up in the schedule. We ask that you be patient with us while we get your application timing synced with our schedule. Once we do, we're sure you'll love your lawn!
Important note: If you plan on doing any seeding this spring, please let us know. Our pre-emergent application is designed to last throughout the season. It will not only inhibit crabgrass but also grass seed for up to three months. Fall is the best time to do seeding and by that time the pre-emergent will not affect grass seed. However, if you do plan to seed this spring, we will not be able to use pre-emergent on your lawn.

Over the past two or three years, we've been getting calls about spruce trees and other plant material not looking so healthy. Many people wait until the problem becomes visible instead of taking the proactive approach to keeping their plant material healthy with proper feeding, watering, and other necessary treatments. By the time we get a call about it, the plants are sometimes too far gone to fix. The old saying is true, an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.
You should be taking a walk around your property on a weekly basis to look at your plant material and make sure you're not seeing any issues. This will help you spot problems as they occur and address them before they get out of hand, thus saving you money in the long run. Call us today about deep root feeding to keep your plants healthy!
Check out this bulletin from MSU for more information on Spruce Decline.

After the snow melts, it is common to find vole damage in your lawn. Usually you will see small trails zigzagging through the grass, often near flower beds and the edges of the lawn. The voles leave your lawn once snow cover is gone and will not be an issue over the summer. The best way to repair your lawn is to rake up the dead grass to allow the grass plants to regrow and fill back in, or if the damage is severe enough you can put down grass seed after it has been raked.
