We have started round two, the fertilizer + weed control application. Typically we will be at your house about 6 weeks after the previous visit.
|
|
If you have not already turned on your sprinkler system now is the time to do so. Well with the way this season has been going you could have turned them on back in march and been safe. If you need any repairs or adjustments to your system feel free to give us a call and schedule an appointment.

Working Together to Get the Best Results!
Watering your lawn will make our weed and feed application more effective for you. Our product cannot be effective on a dry or drought-stressed lawn. At this time, the weeds and lawn will stop growing. The heat from the summer makes the water evaporate more quickly, so your grass will need more water so it can really reach the roots. Your lawn needs about 1 inch of water per week to stay healthy in the heat of the summer. Watering in the early morning and middle of the day will reduce heat stress, much like your body perspires to cool itself when in the sun. Remember to mow your lawn during the really hot weather as needed to a height of 3 inches. This keeps the ground from heating up and the area around your home cooler.
Remember with our weed control application to wait 12 hours then WATER IN to activate the fertilizer for best results. After the application is applied, keep kids and pets off until the lawn is dry (approximately 2 hours). Working together with us will give you the best results for your lawn!

Winter Damage on Trees and Shrubs
You may have noticed that some of your trees and shrubs were slow to leaf-out or flower this spring. Many suffered significant die-back or had poor flowering because of the past winter's harsh temperatures and heavy snowfall. Temperatures fell below average winter temperatures for our area, causing bud and tissue damage. Early spring growth was also delayed by the cool spring temperatures we saw during March and April.
By now, trees and shrubs have begun to push new growth so the damage is becoming more apparent. Any plant material that will recover should be showing signs of recovering already. Anything not recovering may be permanently damaged. You can prune out dead or damaged material. Be sure to always prune back to a live bud or branch union.

Weed Alert: Yellow Nutsedge

Yellow Nutsedge is a warm season perennial weed. It has upright, grass-like leaves and is a light yellow-green in color. It emerges from late-May to mid-July and grows very rapidly in July and August. One of the best things you can do to control this weed is maintain turf density and health by fertilizing and watering regularly. You can physically remove the plants soon after germination to help control them. However, this must be done when the plant is very young. After it matures, tubers develop on the roots. When you pull the plant, you may think you're getting it all but often the tubers are left behind and the weed sprouts again from these tuber.s Because of this, the best way to treat Yellow Nutsedge is by using chemicals specifically developed to kill it.

Because Yellow Nutsedge grows especially well in moist sites you can also increase drainage in moist or wet areas. There are chemical products that can be used to treat Yellow Nutsedge but it can be difficult to control and may require multiple applications. These chemical products are not available for residential use. If you think you have a problem with Yellow Nutsegde, we have the products to get it under control. Call our office to schedule a treatment!
