Perfect Weather for Weeds 

This summer has been ideal for weeds so far. All the rain we've been getting lately has provided the ideal conditions for any weed seeds that didn't germinate early in the spring to start growing now. We've timed our weed control application to best control these late-germinating weeds.

Be aware of non-selective herbicides

We see it happen every year. Someone has a few pesky weeds pop up in their lawn. They buy a bottle of weed control (bottle says weed & grass control) and spot-spray those weeds. A week later they notice dead spots all over the lawn! They used a non-selective weed control that kills both the weeds and the grass. Another problem is a lot of the new non-selective herbicides are extended life so the last longer thus you will not be able to regrow grass in those areas you killed. If you ever find a desire to spot-spray your own weeds in your lawn make sure it is a selective weed control that will not kill the grass (read the label carefully). Many of the newer products are marketed as season-long control or extended-life. The additional ingredients that are added to increase the life of the product may damage plant material more permanently than the active ingredient alone or the standard product.
