A Letter of Encouragement ~ For the Living of These Days
In II Timothy, the Apostle Paul reminds us, "... God did not give us a spirit of fear, but rather a spirit of power and of love..." These are bold words in our present context where many are overwhelmed with fear. They are fearful for children and grandchildren, not knowing what might happen if they are stopped by police; fearful about random shootings, wondering if their community will be next; fearful about terrorism; fearful of those who appear to be different; and fearful about the future.
With more killing of Black motorists at the hands of police officers, the slaughter of LGBT folks in Orlando, the slaying of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, the horrific scenes of terror in France, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq and a myriad of African countries, we dare to name the polarization and divisions being created by fear in our world. Why the United Church of Christ?
Please take a moment to complete this survey. . . . deadline August 22, 2016
Rev. Dr. John C. Dorhauer, General Minister and President (GMP), asked in declaring a Purpose, a Mission, and a Vision that is consistent with our historic commitments and our current calling that is large enough to inspire our covenant partners at every level to give themselves fully over to a gospel that changes lives; and that is particular enough to answer the question, "Why the United Church of Christ?"
"Your insights, reactions and comments will help refine this even a further," states our GMP. A survey is available and we ask everyone to fill it out. Read more and fill out survey HERE. ( https://www.research.net/r/UCCPurposeMission). Thank you! |

With 2 workshops during the day and an evening presentation, they support effective collaboration on issues of our time.
