Moving Day
This summer I'll be moving from Michigan to accept a call as pastor at Pensacola Beach Community Church in Florida. In preparation for this exodus, my family is in the process of packing and purging our belongings. A friend of mine once said that people should move about every five years. He believed that the discipline of moving kept one's personal inventory at the proper levels. He mused that even if one didn't actually move to a new town or new home, one should go through the ritual of packing and moving; even if you just drive the truck around the block and move back into the same place. Moving forces the discipline of sorting useful things from the dross that accumulates over time. Extra cargo costs a great deal to move and limits our mobility. Moving also presents us with the opportunity to evaluate the things that can't be packed and shipped. It can remind us of the depth of our dearest relationships, can afflict us with remorse over relationships that need attention. READ MORE
