On the Second Day of Christmas

On behalf of the Board and Directors and Staff of the Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ, we want to wish our churches, associations, authorized ministers and constituents a very Merry Christmas season and a peaceful and grace-filled New Year! It is good to be a part of the wider-church together, and we cherish the covenant that we have one with the other. May God continue to bless us all in our missions and ministries.

Shalom,

Karen Holcomb-Merrill                                                                     Campbell Lovett

Keep the Water Flowing

In 2014 the Michigan Conference adopted a resolution, "Fresh, Potable, Life-Sustaining Water for All."2016 may just be the year of action on this resolution. Water crises in Flint and Detroit need our compassionate response. If your church is looking for a New Year's mission, please consider one of these opportunities. Some churches are receiving water donations for Detroit on the third
Sunday of every month - please read more about how to be in solidarity with those in Detroit.

In Flint, the mission is two-fold: purifying water from corroded pipes and supplying fresh water to those in need - in schools and homes. Our UCC church in Flint is helping to meet both these needs. Please consider special offerings for Flint and make checks payable to Woodside Church with "water" in the Memo line. Send to Woodside Church, 1509 Court Street, Flint, MI 48503. For more information, contact Pastor Deb Conrad, 810-767-4911.

The Christmas Fund
Our joy at Christmas is a response to God's promise of new life through the birth of Jesus. It is a joy we are called to share widely, through our witness and gifts, both to loved ones and to distant neighbors. RI UCC churches have the opportunity annually to give gifts that will care for active and retired clergy as well as lay employees of the UCC through participation in the Christmas Fund Offering. Gifts to the Christmas Fund provide for the Supplementation of Small Annuities, Supplementation of Health Premiums, Emergency Grants, as well as Christmas "Thank You" Gift checks for low-income retirees.

Gifts are needed - more than ever - to help the growing number of retirees whose low-income annuities make it difficult to meet increasing living costs. Participate in God's promise of renewal by enabling this ministry of compassion and care. Congregations are encouraged to receive the Christmas Fund offering annually - perhaps on Christmas Sunday - December 20th. For more information go to  www.pbucc.org and search for Christmas Fund. Offering envelopes and posters may be ordered from United Church Resources: (800) 537-3394
