We Are Overjoyed

"I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day."
E. B. White

The Michigan Conference Annual Meeting is five weeks from today! What? Five weeks? Yes, five weeks. E. B. White summarizes why it is so hard to plan an annual meeting - we have a desire to improve the world through workshops, keynote addresses, resolutions and the business of the Conference; while we also have a desire to enjoy the world through fellowship together, meals and worship. We are working hard to plan the day(s)!

Some highlights:
  • Rev. Cameron Trimble, from Center for Progressive Renewal, will share with us regarding recent trends in the American religious context and challenge us to be overjoyed instead of depressed.
  • There will be a choice of 18 workshops, 35 display tables, UCC Resources for sale, and a chance to explore two fabulous settings in Grand Rapids - First (Park) Congregational Church, UCC, and the Eberhard Center at Grand Valley State University.
  • The festival service of worship on Friday evening will feature incredible music and a powerful preacher. A brass quintet, timpani, harp, oboe, bells, choir and soloists will have parts in the service of worship; Rev. Mayowa Reynolds from Fellowship Chapel in Detroit will be the Conference Preacher. We will be overjoyed!!
  • Delegates will be engaged in a strategic planning process for the Conference as a part of the keynote address, and every church will have the opportunity to be equipped with resources for planning and coaching in their home settings.
  • The meeting will include time to reflect on resolutions from General Synod, and to engage in the issues that affect us here in Michigan: religious liberty, extravagant welcome for all, and social justice.
  • On Saturday, young people will have the opportunity to engage in a service project at United Church Outreach Ministries (UCOM).
I encourage each Local Church to not only send delegates to represent your church, but to invite additional church members to attend as well. There will be something for everyone.

Together, on October 23 and 24th, we will improve the world and enjoy the world!

With you on the journey,

Campbell Lovett

RE-MEMBER
founder and Ambassador-at-large, Keith Titus now has a website

Please stop in for a visit to read my blog and learn how to order my books. I have three (3) currently in print; written and published since my retirement from active ministry in January, to focus on writing and traveling for RE-MEMBER. I have several more in the offing....It's not that I'm that prolific; some of the future tomes will be writings that have amassed over this long lifetime of scribbling. Profits from the books go to RE-MEMBER. Check out the music on the site - by #4 son Christian. #3 son Justin also has a book of short stories, "Senses and Bones" available at www.lulu.com in the bookstore, available as ebook or print.
