In October, the Michigan Conference adopted a resolution in support of all of God's children having access to potable water - especially in Detroit. Here is an update about what our UCC folks in Michigan can do to be in solidarity with those seeking to keep the water on:

Faith For Thought
December 5, 2014
new MI Conf logo

Faith for Thought is a bi-weekly offering of the Michigan Conference United Church of Christ.

Advent and Christmas can be times of nostalgia - that perfect Christmas long ago, loved ones with us who are now gone. Nostalgia in the midst of church planning, however, can inadvertently hold us back. Longing for the way things used to be creates unrealistic expectations. In this week's #Faith4Thought, Campbell Lovett shares how nostalgia can help move us 'back to the future!

December Meeting of Retired Clergy

Our December meeting of the Retired Clergy will be held on Wednesday, December 10.  The meeting is at Edgewood United Church, 469 N. Hagadorn Rd., East Lansing from 11:30 to about 1:00 or 1:30.  Bring a bag lunch.   The topic for the day has to do with what issues should the Church work on in 2015.  Below is a more formal statement from the UCC.  Hope to see you on the 10th!

Help us define our advocacy work in 2015
Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the

destitute. Defend the rights of the poor and needy. - Proverbs 31:8-9

Two central themes run through the Bible concerning justice. The first
is God's all-encompassing love, concern, and mercy for all human
beings. The second is our responsibility to love and care for the earth

and God's people.

In responding faithfully to God's call for abundant life for all
people, a common life in which no one is left behind, we are drawn
inevitably to engage in public policy advocacy and decision-making.
This is the goal of our UCC Washington office: to make a better world
possible by addressing the systemic problems that we face as a country
and as part of the world. Hunger, poverty, peace and security, racism,
care for the earth. These are among the types of justice issues that we

work to improve through federal policies.

You can help shape our advocacy work for 2015 by telling us what you think our legislative work should focus on in the coming year.
