In Sadness We Share The News...
Rev. Dr. Lowell R. Schrupp, Retired Pastor, Detroit Metropolitan Association; Executive Director Emeritus of Evangelical Homes of Michigan, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Botsford Hospital, where he had been hospitalized since August 31, as a result of a fall.
A native of Minnesota and a graduate of Eden Seminary in St. Louis, Rev. Schrupp joined Evangelical Homes in June 1969, following pastorates in Papineau (IL) and Trinity UCC (now Trinity-St. Mark's) in Detroit. Starting as Chaplain of the Evangelical Home - Detroit, Lowell subsequently became Assistant Administrator, then Administrator, before being elected as Executive Director in 1983. He served as Executive Director until his retirement in September 1999.
Rev. Schrupp guided the organization through many significant regulatory changes and oversaw a good deal of physical plant expansion in his tenure: the completion and expansion of Evangelical Home - Port Huron; the construction, expansion, and new program development at Evangelical Home - Sterling Heights; the development of new initiatives with the construction of three (3) lower-income, HUD-financed apartment buildings in Saline and Detroit; and the creation of the Brecon Village Retirement Community in Saline. Rev. Schrupp authored the history book that was published on the occasion of Evangelical's centennial, 100 Years A Home. He also served on various committees of the Michigan Conference UCC and the Council of Health and Human Service MInistries.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jacquelyn for 43 years. Loving father of Lynne Schrupp (husband John Isaia) and the late Anne Schrupp. Cherished grandfather of Karl Isaia. Rev. Schrupp was preceded in death by his mother Kirjah Franz, his wife Jacquelyn, his daughter Anne and his brother Clifford Schrupp. Survived by step-sisters: Barbara Franz and Joanna Yegerlehner, and his late brother Clifford Schrupp's children: Laura, Mark and Christa.
Visitation will be Friday, September 19th, from 1 - 9 PM at Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, 33603 Grand River Avenue, Farmington MI 48335. Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, September 20th, at 2 PM at Salem United Church of Christ, 33424 Oakland Avenue, Farmington MI 48335.
