Since 1985, the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing and our partners have spent one night each year in City Hall Park to bear witness to the crisis of homelessness and the severe shortage affordable housing and call for solutions.
Now after nearly three decades of bearing annual witness to the crisis, we find ourselves and our city at moment of great promise and possibility
On Thursday, June 26th we will gather on the steps of City Hall to offer prayers and songs to celebrate the fact that our newly elected city leadership has publicly declared a commitment to a city where "no one is left behind" and has begun to put in place, policies to make this vision a reality.
We will recognize one of these leaders - Public Advocate Tish James - as our Builder of the Blessed City - 2014, and declare our commitment to work with Public Advocate James, Mayor de Blasio, and all the newly elected leaders to Build a Blessed City Together - and turn the corner on this terrible chapter in the history of New York City.
We Invite you to join us:
- at 4 PM on the City Hall Steps as we recognize Tish James as our 2014 Builder of the Blessed City,
- at 5 pm in City Hall Park to gather and break bread with people of faith, advocates, and men and women who have been homeless,
- 6 pm until sunset as we join together and pledge to be Builders of the Blessed City in the crucial year to come.
