LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings!
Leaving summer this year with 3 new initiatives behind us, we rolled into Fall with our signature event the 'Dragon Boat Race Festival' and the 8th Annual 'A Taste of Port Jefferson', both well attended and highly successful.
The Dragons increased in team registration by 30% and the weather once again was perfect, blue skies, warm and calm water!  More Asian entertainment and food vendors kept this popular event cranking all day.  Our Port Jefferson Village Team, 'Port Jeff Dragons of Pirates Cove' won the overall team championship.  Kudos to Dragon Chair Tess Son and her hard working committee for once again producing a first rate event.
Taste had continual attendees tasting and drinking for 4 hours.  Samples of drink, food, and desserts were plentiful.  Chair Melissa Petsco once again did a great job.
We now are preparing for our annual Santa Parade-November 28th and the Homes of Harbor Hills Lantern Light House Tour-December 12th.
The Charles Dickens Festival is celebrating their 20th anniversary December 5th & 6th with new programs, including our Chamber Partner Sherry Sobel owner of A Cake in Time, creating 'Cookieland' in the Port Jefferson Harbormaster building on the harbor!
The Chamber continually supports its partners and works hard to stay involved with Village activities!
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving filled will great food, family and friends.

CHAMBER CHATTER

With sadness we regret the closing of the Village Way Restaurant.  The owner Alice was an active and strong supporter of the Chamber and the Village.  We wish her and her staff and family only the best and thank them for their many years of Chamber membership.

Looking forward to the opening of 'Smoke Shack Blues on Main Street and also the new vegan/coffee shop of E. Main!

The Chamber was 'flocked' in support of Chamber Partner Mather Hospital's initiative, 'Paint Port Pink'.  10 'Skinnimingos' showed up one morning on the Chamber's front yard!  All proceeds for this fundraiser went to the Fortunato Breast Health Center.

Ice skating starts up again November 27th at the Port Jefferson Village Center and the Farmers Market indoor market starts November 29th 10-2:00 pm (outdoor closes 11/22)

ATTENTION ALL CHAMBER PARTNERS please stop by the Chamber and receive your holiday wooden ornament to decorate for the Chamber sponsored tree in the 'Festival of Trees' at the PJ Village Center.  Be as creative as you want and make sure you advertise your business name on the ornament! All finished decorated ornaments need to be back to the Chamber by November 24th, same day as the general membership meeting, so BRING it with you

Wishing Terri Quinn, Director of Development for Mather Hospital good luck in her new position 'Director of Special Events & Cause Marketing' for Stony Brook University!

PAST EVENTS

1st Annual Heritage Weekend
August 22nd and 23rd Port Jefferson Village celebrated its rich heritage.  With over 15 locations throughout the Village visitors were able to walk throughout the Village to experienced activities, programs, and ceremonies that celebrate our culture, traditions, history and achievements.
The Chamber partnered with the Village and had their doors open for the 2 full days with costumed docents and handed out our descriptive historic pamphlet describing the importance of our Chamber office the 1682 Roe House.  The descendants of John Roe who lived in this home helped to facilitate getting information to General George Washington through the Culper Spy Ring.

PJ Chamber's Summer Networking Soiree- August 25th
Keeping up with the mission of remaining connected to our partners, the Chamber hosted a summer networking soiree welcoming again all our new Chamber Partners & guests with in the past 12 months.

Refreshments were served and meet and greets were done.  Two guests joined the Chamber and all guests enjoyed a summer get-together.

Dragon Roar!
The day was bright and warm with 22 teams racing in the harbor!
This annual event once again thrilled residents and visitors with loads of great food and entertainment, all Asian based.  Our Port Jefferson team was the grand champions coming in with the final racing time of 1.09 minutes!  Congratulations to ALL the teams and many thanks to our sponsors and committee that made this event an extraordinary day!

TASTE OF PORT JEFFERSON

Another successful year for 'A Taste of Port Jefferson' attendance was up from last year and the weather was picture perfect!  This year's event had a new element added; a 'People's Choice' award, where participants were asked to judge food, drink & dessert categories.  The winners were:  Best Food-Danfords Wave Seafood Kitchen; Best Drink-Danfords Wave Seafood Kitchen; & Best Dessert-Chocology.  VIP judges also judged the vendors who were:  Taste Sponsor-Jim Altebrando-AXA Advisors, TOB Councilwoman Valerie Cartright, Mayor Margot Garant, SC Legislature Kara Hahn, & PJ Taste Chair Melissa Petsco.  The winners were: Best Display-Danfords, Best Food & Drink-The Fifth Season, Best Signature Dish-Smoke Shack Blues, Best Dessert-Chocology.  Mark your calendars for new year Taste, October 22, 2016!!

HARVEST FESTIVAL

The Chamber sponsored the 'Scarecrow Walk' on East Main Street with a variety of scarecrow entrees from different organizations and businesses.  The winner this year for the most creative was Junior Girl Scout Troop 1390 for their 'Headless' Horseman!!  The troop received a $50 gift certificate to our local Carvel store!

Besides the many other activities for that Sunday the Village supported a chowder crawl.  First place went to Gourmet Burger Bistro, owner Mike Napoli with his creamy chowder with a bacon cheddar cheese flavor.  2nd place was C'est Cheese, third place Chamber Partner Tommy's Place.
Other favorite events included the costumed dog parade, antique farm machinery, and a classic car display.
