LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings!
Happy summer, Long Island shines in bright sunny warm days. Day trippers enjoy all that our Village offers! Great eating and dinning, shopping, concert, movie and children programs. Our Chamber is open for business and are flags fly high welcoming all visitors.
This July the Chamber created a new event the Gardens and Landscapes of Port Jefferson. Attendees toured 9 private unique gardens throughout the Village where they found additional features of refreshments and music. To be sure this novel and popular tour will be reproduced in 2016.
Although off for the month of August, we are already planning for two major events for the fall, our very successful Dragon Boat Race Festival for September 19th and the Taste of Port Jefferson October 24th. So please stay tune for more details and mark your calendars now.
Hoping that the summer doesn't fly too quickly and wishing you all the sunniest of days.

Our former Chamber director Clif Brown who has retired to Florida is doing well with his new home on a golf course and sends his best regards!
If you like vegan, Japanese, BBQ, painting and sipping wine, look in the near future for four new eating establishments that are ALL in different stages of opening up here in the Village. In addition Brewology is now open on the corner of Main and Arden if you like craft beer.
Special congratulations with the re-election of Mayor Margot Garant and Trustee Larry La Pointe and newly elected Stan Loucks. All sworn in on the 4th of July in front of Village Hall, wishing the entire board continued success.

Green Fest June 13th
Once again was blessed with the Sun Gods! The weather held up and we placed many vendors outside. There was an even flow of attendees who shopped, were informed, and enjoyed the entertainment. The PJ Village Center lends itself to allowing the foot traffic to circulate with their massive glass doors open to the environment. This year the farmers market was presented by Fairway Market and we thank all those repeated green vendors that joined in and supported this family event.
Fourth of July Parade-July 4th
This year the Chamber hired the 'Wholly Brass' marching band who accompanied our decorated cars and marchers. Their upbeat brass music sound filled the parade with a marching tempo making all that heard their sound smile!
Gardens & Landscapes of Port Jefferson-July 11th
First time event...WOW what a success. Beautiful day, 9 private gardens located in the Village, all serving refreshments and had added features. The Suwassett Garden Club partnered with the Chamber and their members acted as docents. In addition the Night Herons water colorists painted at selected gardens, adding another dimension to the tour. Thank you to the hard working committee and all their efforts, this event will be presented again in 2016.

September 19th will mark the second annual 'Port Jefferson Dragon Boat Race Festival'. Last year was the inaugural debut of this festive event bringing an estimated crowd of 5,000 attendees. This year there are 24 team registrations which is the maximum for this race. The teams will compete in a 250 meter course. Pan-Asian entertainment, food, children's activities will round off the entire day from 9-5:00 at the Harborfront Park in the Village of Port Jefferson.
'A Taste of Port Jefferson' returns again October 24th for its 8th year of sampling frenzy! 30 restaurants, eateries, beer, & wine vendors will set-up their tables at the Port Jefferson Village Center from noon to 4:00 pm. Ticketed attendees will be able to 'graze' as long as they wish. This year again there will be a vendor's competition for: Best Table Display; Best Food/Drink Presentation; and Most Creative Dish. A judge's panel will be made up of special VIP's including the Mayor of Port Jefferson. Tickets on sale NOW at the pre-sale cost of $40 and $ 50 at the door, tickets will also be available on Eventbrite.
