Biking for Babies
3rd Annual Biking for Babies | August 17th at 9 am| Glacial Lakes State Trail Marker in Spicer
 
The 3rd Annual Willmar Lakes Area Biking for Babies event will be held on Sunday, August 17th.  This family fun, recreational bike ride contains three routes - short, medium and long.  The ride starts at 9 am at the Glacial Lakes State Trail marker in Spicer, across from the Dairy Queen.  You will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Glacial Lakes State Trail and the community of Spicer all while raising money for SIDS research and education.  Pre-registration for the bike ride is open until August 11th.  You may still register the day of the ride.  Read More

Highway 12 Reconstruction Project Update
 
Crews are installing storm sewer and storm water pipes to help improve drainage in the area, beginning at the east end of the project and moving west.  This week's work includes minor bridge repairs and work on the bridge approach panels.  The end block is being replaced in the area where the guardrail is attached.  Excavation and embankment work continues.  Read More
The last weekly project update meeting will be held on Thursday, August 7th.  Beginning August 21st, project meetings will be held on a bi-weekly series.  Project update meetings are held on Thursdays at the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber Earl B. Olson Board Room  (2104 Highway 12 East) beginning at 11 am.  Anyone interested in the project's progress is welcome to attend.
It's a "Brain Gain" for Rural Minnesota | August 15th | 10 am - 12 noon | Life Science Innovations Auditorium
 
The population of rural America has changed significantly over the past 40 years, which is commonly referred to as the rural rebound.  Come join in the "Brain Gain" conversation with rural sociologist and research fellow for the University of Minnesota Extension's Center for Community Vitality.  Hosted by Vision 2040: Goal 1, "Brain Gain" will explore the migration of 30-49 year olds to small towns and their social and economic impact on rural Minnesota.  Specific trends for the new urbanity of the Willmar Lakes Area will be featured.  Held on Friday, August 15, at MinnWest Technology Campus, the two-hour session begins at 10 am in the Auditorium.
