Candidate Election Information Workshop

The Public Policy Committee of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has organized election and campaign materials for persons interested in campaigning for the City Council, School Board and Kandiyohi County Commissioner positions.  Filings open May 20th and close June 3rd.  If needed, the Primary election is August 12, 2014 and the General Election is November 4, 2014.

Nathan Streed, Public Policy Committee Election Workshop chair states, "This is an attempt by the Chamber to assist and encourage individuals from the community who are possibly interested in seeking election to the City, School or County government; and to provide them with the essential information about the role of each of the elected offices.  It is our hope that by providing these informational tools, we will produce an informed candidate and provide the community with candidates who understand their respective job descriptions for public office."

Information is organized from the City, School and County Administrators to assist potential candidates regarding commonly asked questions.  Bob Dols, committee member states, "The Chamber takes an active interest in the election process.  With City Council, School Board, and County Commissioner positions up for election in Willmar, New London and Spicer, there are plenty of opportunities to become active to participate on a governing body."

Individuals who are interested in running for the office of County Commissioner, School Board or City Council, are encouraged to contact the Chamber office, 235-0300, to receive a complimentary copy of the materials or they can attend an informational luncheon featuring a retired elected official talking about their experience as an elected official & business person.

The meeting will take place on January 28th during a noon luncheon meeting from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. at the Chamber office.  Potential attendees are encouraged to RSVP so proper meetings arrangements can be made by calling or emailing the Chamber at 235-0300 or [email protected].  Space is limited so please contact the Chamber today.
