Greetings!
The vernal equinox on March 20 marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere. Days will gradually become longer as the sun stays above the horizon just a little bit longer each day.
Use those new hours of daylight to explore your Metro Parks. There are opportunities to learn the sweet story of maple sugaring, witness the annual amphibian migration across Sand Run Parkway and more!
See you on the trails,
Metro Parks, Serving Summit County

March Outdoor Almanac | The mating melodies of wood frogs and spring peepers fill the air near wetlands. On rainy nights near 50 degrees, salamanders cross Sand Run Parkway to reach vernal pools, where they mate and lay eggs. Great blue herons add sticks to last year's nests in treetops and court their mates.

Featured Trail: Ledges Trail | The 1.1-mile Ledges Trail passes by a unique system of sandstone ledges, into Glacier Cave and to a wetland before traveling back to the trailhead over a long boardwalk. The ledges are covered by a "living skin." Ferns, mosses and lichens grow here, and endangered bats and other species live in the area.
