H.E.R.O. Run Results

PTA thanks all of you who contributed to the H.E.R.O. Run. We met our fundraising goal of $25,000! Thanks to you our PTA programs including Choral Music, Arts Attack, and Technology support will be able to continue for the rest of the school year. (See how PTA funds are spent.)

 

Congratulations to the top three students with the most H.E.R.O. Run Donations:

Ryan Baker - $530

We would also like to congratulate our Top Lap Runners. All were recognized with a medal at Monday Morning's Assembly.

 

Parent Teacher Conferences - March 13 & 14

There will be an early 1:15pm dismissal on Thursday, March 13th and Friday, March 14th due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. Please be sure to pick up your child on time so teachers and staff can attend these important meetings.

Clairemont Day at the Bay - April 12th
Fast Times 5K Article Subheading
Clairemont Day at the Bay will be on Saturday, April 12th at De Anza Cove from 7:30am - 3pm. Come support Clairemont schools! Register for the Fast Times 5K Race/Walk or come down for the Community Fair and Kid's Activities. For more information, download the Fast Times 5K Flyer or visit the Fast Times web site at www.fasttimes5K.com.

 

Student Recognition - March 17 & 21

Our next Student Recognition Assemblies will take place on:

March 17th at 2:30pm - Grades 4/5/6
March 21st at 1:45pm - Grades K & 1
March 21st at 2:45pm - Grades 2 & 3

If your child is being recognized, we hope you can attend. Students take pleasure in sharing this time with their families. Honorees are encouraged to donate a refreshment for the reception that follows the assembly.

Junior Theater Performance - March 19th

The San Diego Junior Theatre at Holmes presents: Little Mermaid (A Mini Musical) on Wed, March 19th. Doors open to family and friends at 2:15pm. The performers' families are encouraged to bring a treat for the reception immediately following the performance.
 
Grade Level Spelling Bees - March 20 & 21

The Classroom Spelling Bees have been completed for Grades 1 through 6. Congratulations to all of the Classroom Winners!  They will compete in the Grade Level Bees in the Auditorium on:

PTA Association Meeting - March 20th

Get connected at our next PTA Association Meeting on Thursday, March 20th at 6pm
in the Holmes Auditorium. PTA members will elect the 2014-2015 PTA Board and adopt the mid-year audit. All PTA positions are elected annually and any PTA member is welcome to run for Office. Download the Nominating Committee's recommended candidates. Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the election.
 
Also at the PTA Meeting, a special guest speaker, Tracie Arlington of Play It Safe, will share techniques on how to Bully-proof your kids

Free childcare will be available from the YMCA. No reservations are needed, but please be sure to bring a completed YMCA Medical Form for your child.
 
Anti-Bully Presentations - March 20 & 28

On March 28th, the PTA has arranged for Tracie Arlington of Play It Safe to teaching "bully-proof" techniques to our students at school-wide assemblies. 
 
She will also be presenting at the March 20th PTA Association Meeting. Come learn about her "KEEP THE POWER: BE A WINNER" Anti-Bully Program and how you as parents can support her valuable bully-proof lessons at home. This is a great opportunity to have this important dialog about something near and dear to all of us - the safety and well-being of our kids!

 

Dining for Dollars - March 24th

Treat your family to dinner out and support our school at the same time. Visit Islands Restaurant on Balboa Avenue on Monday, March 24th from 5:00-9:30pm

Be sure to present the Islands Flyer and 20% of your check will be donated to our school.

 

Founder's Day - March 28th

Join the Holmes PTA for an evening of Glitz and Glam as we roll out the red carpet and shine the spotlight on our Superstar Volunteers.

  "A Night of Stars" 
Founder's Day Dance
 March 28, 2014    6:00-9:30 pm

There will be a DJ, dancing, and a photo booth. Dessert and punch will be served and dinner will be available for purchase. Tickets are $4 if purchased by March 27th and $6 thereafter. RSVP with the Founder's Day Ticket Order Form and return with your payment to your child's teacher or the School Office.

 

H.A.W.K.S. Garden Update

In January, Holmes students, parents, community volunteers, and staff from Fish & Wildlife and California Native Plant Society planted our Canyon Rim Native Plants Garden. Over 120 Tecolote-specific natives were added, along with rocks, gorilla hair mulch and pathways.  

On May 17th, Holmes' five gardens will be featured in the Clairemont Garden Tour held during our Spring Fling.

Lice Info & New Wellness Web Page

The problem of head lice is ongoing and can be a time consuming, frustrating nuisance. Prompt diagnosis and treatment is essential to get rid of them. To that end, PTA has posted information on the school web site to educate parents on lice prevention and treatment
 
We have also created a new Nursing & Wellness web page where you can find Health Fact Sheets that address common health concerns at school.
