H.E.R.O. Run Pledges - Due Feb 28th

A big THANK YOU goes out to all parent volunteers, teachers, corporate sponsors and student athletes who all contributed to making our H.E.R.O. Run on Feb 13th such a great event!

Money raised will be put toward educational enrichment and physical education equipment. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 students that raise the most money:

1st Prize - Xbox 360 Bundle with Kinect
2nd Prize - High End Custom Scooter
3rd Prize - iPod Shuffle

Sponsor sheets and pledges are due by February 28th.

PTA WANTS YOU!  The work of the 2014 Nominating Committee is underway! Jen Kennedy, Lyda Young, and Ivonne Ganss are seeking candidates for the 2014-2015 Holmes PTA Board. All Board positions are elected annually.

YOU can make a difference at your child's school! Learn about the different positions in the PTA and see where your interests and the various roles in the PTA come together. Download the PTA Interest Form and return in your child's folder or to the front office ASAP. Join the efforts to keep SUPERNESS and EXCITEMENT at Holmes Elementary!

Free Movie Night - Feb 21st

Come enjoy a free, family-friendly movie with other Holmes families on Friday, Feb 21st in the Auditorium. It will be a unique movie night with a special Surfrider film presentation at 5:30pm followed by the feature movie, WALL-E.

Guests from the district office will be there to talk about big changes with school lunch trays and school recycling. 

Tamales will be on sale for $2.50 beginning at 5pm. Popcorn and concessions will also be for sale.
 
Western BBQ - Sign up by Feb 21st

YEE-HAW! All students and teachers are invited to a
Western BBQ on Wed, March 5th during their regular lunch time. Lunch will be $2.50 and include hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie burgers with all the fixins'. Students are asked to sign up in advance. Please return the BBQ Flyer to your child's teacher by Friday, Feb 21st. 
 
We also need 6 parents to help serve students. Servers will receive a free lunch. Please contact Debbie Roberts in the office if you can help out at droberts2@sandi.net.
 
Western BBQ
San Diego Zoo Assembly - Feb 24th
 
The San Diego Zoo will visit Holmes on Monday, Feb 24th to present an educational assembly on "Pollinators--More pizzazzy than you realize!". The zany Dr. Zoolittle and two Zoo animals will teach students what pollination is, who the pollinators are, and why they are so important. 
 
Students will learn that animals are endangered; and that they (the students) can take simple actions in their daily lives to improve the health of the Earth for the animals -and themselves! This a PTA sponsored event.

 

Spring Picture Day - March 3rd

All students will have their Spring portraits taken on Monday, March 3rd. Be sure to schedule those haircuts! No money is needed on picture day and there is no obligation to purchase portraits.

 

Spring Fling Planning Committee

The Spring Fling is scheduled for Saturday, May 10th. We are looking for people interested in taking on a role in the Spring Fling planning committee. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Teresa King at: teresa.king@holmespta.org
 
Local Farmer's Market - Order by Friday

Welcome to an easy way to feed your family with fresh, organic produce! 

Simply order online from Daily Harvest Market and sign up for weekly or bi-weekly deliveries. Your fresh produce will be delivered free of charge on Tuesdays after school. Order by Friday for the next Tuesday's delivery. Daily Harvest will even donate 5% of sales back to Holmes!

Yearbook Pictures Wanted

PTA is working on the 2013-2014 Holmes Yearbook. The annual yearbook commemorates the school year and features all student class pictures as well as pictures from classroom and school events.

Clairemont Day at the Bay - April 12th
Fast Times 5K
Clairemont Day at the Bay will be on Saturday, April 12th. In addition to the Fast Times 5K, another race has been added where schools in San Diego county can compete for the Fasttimes5K legacy trophies. Elementary school students will compete for the Paul Greer 1000 legacy trophy. They will run a 1000 m or 1 km and the entree fee will be $10 per student.
