No Mileage Club on Thursday

There will be NO Mileage Club on Thursday, Feb 13th due to our annual H.E.R.O. Run. 
 
Come cheer your kids on as they run laps to earn money for our school! The H.E.R.O. Run Parade begins at 1:30pm.
 
H.E.R.O. Run Pledges and Prizes

The Feb 13th H.E.R.O. Run is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Our goal is to raise $25K (or $40 per student) for educational enrichment and physical education equipment. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 students that raise the most money for our school:

1st Prize - Xbox 360 Bundle with Kinect
2nd Prize - High End Custom Scooter
3rd Prize - iPod Shuffle

Students are asked to collect pledges and return their Sponsor sheets with donations by February 28th.  
Companies can make a 100% tax-deductible donation, by completing and returning the Corporate Sponsor Form.

H.E.R.O. Run Lap Counters Needed!

The H.E.R.O. Run needs your help! Please get involved! Volunteers are needed to count laps in each classroom. This is an easy and rewarding way to participate in this fun community event. Please sign up with your Room Parent ASAP.

 

Volunteers are also needed to help with serving snow cones. If you can help, please contact Jessie Nettles at jessie.nettles@holmespta.org.

 

Valentine Grams -  Feb 13th

Thank you for supporting Student Council by purchasing Valentine Grams. They raised nearly $600 which will be used for Spirt Week activities in June! Valentine Grams will be distributed to classrooms on Feb 13th. 
 
Presidents Day Holiday - Feb 14 & 17th

All San Diego Unified Schools will be closed on Friday, February 14th and on Monday, February 17th in observance of the President's Day Holidays. School will resume on Tuesday, February 18th.

 

Dining for Dollars @ Chili's - Feb 18th

Let Chili's do the cooking while supporting our school at the same time! Visit Chili's Restaurant on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. for Dine-in or ToGo on Tuesday, Feb 18th from 11:00am - close.

Be sure to present the Chili's Flyer and 15% of your check will be donated to our school.

2014-2015 Holmes PTA Board. All Board positions are elected annually.

YOU can make a difference at your child's school! They would love to talk to you about the different positions in the PTA and see where your interests and the various roles in the PTA come together. Local Farmer's Market Comes to Holmes

Welcome to an easy way to feed your family with fresh, organic produce! 

Simply order online from Daily Harvest Market and sign up for weekly or bi-weekly deliveries. Your fresh produce will be delivered free of charge on Tuesdays after school. Daily Harvest will even donate 5% of sales back to Holmes.

Free Movie Night - Feb 21st

Come enjoy a free, family-friendly movie with other Holmes families on Friday, Feb 21st in the Holmes Auditorium. The movie title will be announced soon. This free community event is sponsored by Holmes PTA.

 

Spelling Bee 
Spelling Bee Article Subheading
BZZZZZZZZZ ...... The Spelling Bee is coming!  Spelling Bee Lists have been distributed to all students in 1st through 6th Grade. Students are encouraged to practice spelling those words! Spelling Bees will be held in classrooms prior to Friday, Feb 21st.  

Grade level Bees are slated for March 20-21st. Parent volunteers are needed. If interested, contact Christine Groves at christine.groves@holmespta.org.

Yearbook Pictures Wanted

PTA is already starting to work on the 2013-2014 Holmes Yearbook. The annual yearbook commemorates the school year and features all student class pictures as well as pictures from classroom and school events.

Secrets to Successful Parenting Seminars

If you missed the Parenting Presentation at our last PTA Meeting, it's not too late to learn some effective parenting skills! Family Coach, Hilde Gross, is offering the following seminars on Secrets to Successful Parenting:  
 
Thursdays - Feb 6th to March 6th (6:00pm - 8:30pm)
Saturdays - March 1st & 8th (9:30am - 4pm)

Clairemont Day at the Bay - April 12th
Fast Times 5K
Clairemont Day at the Bay will be on Saturday, April 12th. In addition to the Fast Times 5K, another race has been added where schools in San Diego county can compete for the Fasttimes5K legacy trophies. Elementary school students will compete for the Paul Greer 1000 legacy trophy. They will run a 1000 m or 1 km and the entree fee will be $10 per student.
