H.E.R.O. Run - Feb 13th

Our annual H.E.R.O. Run will be held on Thursday, Feb 13th during the 2014 Winter Olympics. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Funds raised will go towards educational enrichment and physical education equipment. Sponsor sheets are coming home with students this week. 

Please get involved! Sponsor a child, donate your time and/or ask your company to make a corporate sponsorship. Volunteers are also needed. If interested in helping out, please contact Jessie Nettles at 

 

School Garden Planting - Jan 17th

All classrooms will participate in creating a native plants habitat on the canyon rim with the Holmes HAWKS (Holmes Amazing Wildlife Kids Sanctuary). Students should come to school prepared to get dirty on Friday, Jan 17th!   
 
Parents, want to get involved? Join us for the planting. We will also be coordinating and preparing soil on Thursday, Jan 16th from 9:30am-3pm. Please email Cami Abel at cami.abel@holmespta.org if you can help.

We will be holding tours for parents of students interested in attending Holmes Elementary on:

Tours begin at 9:05am with an orientation in the auditorium followed by visits to classrooms.
 
Martin Luther King Day - No School Jan 20th

All San Diego Unified schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 20th, for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday. All schools and offices will reopen Tuesday, January 21st.

Ident-A-Kid ID Photos - Jan 22nd

Every year thousands of children go missing in the United States. When this happens the emotional stress and trauma can make answering the most basic questions to law enforcement seem overwhelming. 
 
By having the Ident-A-Kid ID Card you can save precious minutes in case of an emergency by providing law enforcement with crucial information should your child become lost or missing. You can get an ID Card for your child at school on Wed, Jan 22nd.  Be sure to turn in your order form by this date. For more information, visit www.identakid.com.

Come and get connected at our next PTA Association Meeting on Thursday, Jan 23rd at 6pm in the Auditorium. PTA members will elect this year's Nominating Committee and review the mid-year budget.  
 
The PTA has also arranged for a special guest speaker: Family Coach, Hilde Gross. She will impart helpful parenting strategies on "Avoiding Everyday Power Struggles" with your kids. See the Flyer for more info.

Influence the future of our PTA as a member of the Nominating Committee! The purpose of the committee is to select the best-qualified people to run for elected PTA Board positions for 2014-2015.

Three members and two alternates are needed to make up the committee which will be elected at the Jan 23rd PTA Association Meeting. If interested, please contact the PTA Parliamentarian, Arlyn Engebretson at arlyn.engebretson@holmespta.org.

Spelling Bee

BZZZZZZZZZ ...... The Spelling Bee is coming!  Spelling Bee Lists have been distributed to all students in 1st through 6th Grade. Students are encouraged to practice spelling those words! Spelling Bees will be held in classrooms prior to Friday, Feb 21st.  

Grade level Bees are slated for March 20-21st. Parent volunteers are needed. If interested, contact Christine Groves at christine.groves@holmespta.org.

Fast Times 5K Race/Walk - April 12th

The Clairemont Hills Kiwanis and Clairemont Mesa Education Foundation are proud to announce the 2nd Annual Fast Times 5K Race/Walk to be held at Clairemont Day at the Bay on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Event proceeds directly support participating schools in the Clairemont & Madison clusters.
