Winter Holiday Program - Dec 19th

Don't miss our Winter Holiday Program tonight - Thursday, Dec 19th from 6:00-8:00pm in the Auditorium. Be sure to review the performance schedule on the Holmes Web site so you know when your child is scheduled to perform. 
 
There will be additional viewing on a movie screen in the lunch court, as well as video streaming in Rooms 4, 5, and 11. The Holmes PTA will be selling refreshments in Room 4 during intermission.

 

Mileage Club Holiday Tokens - Dec 19th

Mileage Club tokens will be awarded on Thursday, Dec 19th from 8:20-8:40am. Visit the Track My Laps web site to see your child(ren)'s progress.

We will also be selling commemorative 'Holiday' tokens.  They are only 2 for a $1.00 and will be sold before, during, and after Mileage Club. Proceeds will be used to support Mileage Club and other PTA activities. To learn more about Mileage Club, visit the Mileage Club web page.

 

School Tour - Dec 20th
 
We will be holding tours for parents of students interested in attending Holmes Elementary on:

Friday, Dec 20th 
Friday, Jan 17th 
Friday, Jan 31st

Tours begin at 9:05am with an orientation in the auditorium followed by visits to classrooms.
 
Recycling Contest Winner
Recycle Electronics Article Subheading
This year we recycled more items than ever in our recycling contest! Thanks to everyone who contributed. The money raised goes directly to technology to replace what else but - INK CARTRIDGES around the school.
 
Congratulations to Room 11 who brought in over 237 items! Their class will be awarded a check for $50.  Don't stop bringing in your recycling - we recycle all school year.
 
Holiday Food Drive Winners

Congratulations to those classrooms that averaged 10 items per student in our Holmes Holiday Food Drive. These classrooms will be awarded a Popcorn-Juice-Movie Party funded by the Student Council: Mrs. Wadleigh, Mr. Blase, Mrs. Celle, Mrs. Woodfill, and Mr. DiFede.
Winter Break - Dec 23rd
Happy Holidays Article Subheading
School will be closed for Winter Break on December 23rd - January 3rd.  It will reopen on Monday, January 6, 2014. We hope you enjoy this special time off with your family and friends.

 

Bucks for Bode

Help a Holmes family in need 
this holiday season!

Bode Paulsen, a former Holmes
student, has been fighting cancer for
a while. In August, his eye was
removed to stop the progression of the disease and he is now under-going 50 weeks of chemotherapy. This is a very challenging time for him and his family and they could really use your help this holiday season.

They would love to hear from you via letters or cards which can be dropped off in the Holmes Office. Monetary and/or meal donations would also be much appreciated. If you would like to help, please download the attached Bucks for Bode Flyer for more information.
 
5th Grade Coffee Chat - Jan 8th

In the new year, all parents are invited to attend the Clairemont Community of Schools 5th grade Coffee Chat. Come learn about the transition of 5th graders to Marston middle school next year and years thereafter. The meeting will be held on: Wednesday, Jan 8, 2014 at 9am in Room 16.

 

Holmes HAWKS (Holmes Amazing Wildlife Kids Sanctuary) Planting - Jan 17th

Mark your calendars for planting on Friday, January 17.  Students should come to school prepared to get dirty! All classrooms will participate in creating a native plants habitat on campus. 
 
Parents, want to get involved? Join us for the planting. We will also be coordinating and preparing soil on Thursday, Jan 16th from 9:30am-3pm. Please email Cami at cami.abel@holmespta.org if you can help.

 

New After School Programs

It's not too early to plan for your winter after school enrichment! Sign up for your favorite program or try something new. 
 
In January, new sessions begin for:
- Cheer with Spiritkids Sports
- Junior Theatre
- Lego Engineering with EAFT
- Tennis
- TGA Premier Junior Golf
- Guitar Club 
- Soccer
 
In February, these programs return:
- Mad Science
- Heartlight Aerobics

Nominating Committee Candidates Needed

PTA members will elect a new Nominating Committee at the January 23rd PTA Association meeting. The purpose of the committee is to select the best-qualified people to run for elected PTA Board positions for 2014-2015.

We need three members and two alternates to make up the committee. All candidates must be PTA members. If interested, please contact the PTA Parliamentarian, Arlyn Engebretson at arlyn.engebretson@holmespta.org.
 
H.E.R.O. Run Volunteers Needed

Our annual H.E.R.O. Run will have an Olympic theme this year as it will be held on Feb 13th during the 2014 Winter Olympics.  Volunteers are needed to form a planning committee:

- Decorating Coordinator
- Prize & Medal Coordinator
- Kick-Off Assembly Coordinator
- Event Day Coordinator
- Award Assembly Coordinator
- Corporate & Small Business Sponsor Coordinator
- Communications Coordinator
- Fundraising Coordinator
