Red Ribbon Week - Oct 22-25th

Red Ribbon Activities begin October 22nd! From Tuesday to Friday of next week, the Holmes community will be celebrating our commitment to smart and healthy choices. This year's theme is "A Healthy Me, A Healthy You, A Healthy Holmes!"

Tue, Oct 22nd - A Healthy Me makes healthy choices! Wear a hat to show you use your head.

Wed, Oct 23rd - "Focus" on healthy choices.  Wear crazy glasses, goggles or eye wear and bring a healthy, red snack for recess.   

Thu, Oct 24th - 
Team up for a healthy school!  Wear your favorite team jersey, spirit wear or healthy activity t-shirt.    

Fri, Oct 25th - 
I'm a JEAN-ius. Wear a red shirt with jeans to show your comittment to healthy choices.

Halloween Carnival - Oct 26th

Come join the fun at our Annual Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Oct 26th from 11am - 4pm. There will be a Haunted House, 20 game booths, our famous cake walk, face painting, and prizes for everyone.  Food options include hot dogs, tacos, soda, water, shaved ice and kettle corn. Presale tickets will be available on Oct 23rd-25th. Invite your friends, family and neighbors! Costumes are encouraged.

 

Baked Goods Needed

CALLING ALL BAKERS!!! We NEED cakes, cupcakes, cookies or any other baked treat to be given as prizes for our Halloween Carnival CAKEWALK! **Does not need to be homemade** 

If you can provide a baked treat, please notify us at: kcrc@san.rr.com, 858-292-5222. Please bring all baked goods in a non-returnable container to the Holmes auditorium on Friday, Oct 25th from 8am-9pm or Saturday, Oct 26th before 8am.
  
Help for Halloween Carnival

Holmes needs your help!  The Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Oct 26th is an annual tradition and a lot fun for our students and the community. PLEASE sign up to volunteer one hour in your student's game booth. The first three classes to get enough volunteers for their booth will win a popsicle party and get the opportunity to pick their own game booth.  

The Carnival Committee is also looking for volunteers to provide baked goods, face paint, grill hot dogs, build games and a haunted house and to help with set-up and break down. Dads, grandpas, uncles, etc. are needed too! If you can help, please contact Jason Boyd at jas.j.boyd@gmail.com.

Clairemont Cluster Meeting - Oct 17th

Parents are invited to attend the Clairemont Community of Schools Cluster meeting on
Thursday, Oct 17th at 5:30pm at Marston Middle School Library.
Come learn about new ways our schools will be receiving funding and help develop a list of where to focus cluster efforts at each school. Visit the Clairemont Cluster website for more information.
 
School Picture Day - Oct 21st

Our Fall School Picture Day for students is on Monday, Oct 21st. No money is needed on Picture Day. Proofs and ordering information will be sent home in about a week. Picture make-up day will be on Monday, Oct 28th for students who are absent.

Dining for Dollars - Oct 23rd
Rubio's
Treat your family to lunch or dinner while supporting our school at the same time! Visit Rubio's (The Home of the Original Fish Taco) in Kearny Mesa on Wednesday, Oct 23rd from 2pm to 9pm. Dine in, take food To Go or pick up a Rubio's a-Go-Go Catering order.

YMCA Parent's Night Out - Oct 25th

The Holmes YMCA is hosting a Halloween Parent's Night Out
on Friday, Oct 25th from 6-9pm. Drop off your kids and go out and have fun! Your kids will participate in fun activities including games, art projects, dinner, and a movie. Costumes are encouraged.
 
The event is $20 and is open to all students, not just YMCA participants. Download the YMCA flyer for registration information. A Medical Form is also needed for new participants. Contact Cristian Gijon at cgijon@ymca.org for more info.

 

Walk, Bike and Roll to School Challenge - Oct 28th

Thanks to those who participated in the Walk and Roll to School Day last week! Now, you can help Holmes win $1,000 for school supplies. Just join the iCommute SchoolPool online system to log the trips you made the week of October 7-11. Please log your trips by October  28th to be included in the tally and get a chance to win San Diego Zoo coupons (free child admission with adult ticket purchase).

K-5 Reconfiguration Meeting - Oct 30th

Parents, please join us on Wednesday, October 30th from 5:30-7:00pm
in the Auditorium to learn more about a proposal to reconfigure Holmes to K-5 and become dedicated to the Clairemont Cluster beginning in 2014-2015. District representatives, including the Principals from Marston Middle School and Clairemont High School, will be in attendance to present information.

Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is
Thank you so much for Putting your Money Where Your Hearts Are! We have raised $12,805 so far. But we still need to raise another $12,196 to keep our music and software.  Only 36% of Holmes families have contributed. The remaining 64% of us can make the difference our kids need!

Parent-Teacher Conferences - Nov 19-22nd

Mark your calendar for Parent-Teacher Conferences on 
November 19-22nd. Conferences are a dedicated time for you to discuss the academic and social progress of your child with his/her teacher. PLEASE NOTE: there is an early 1:15pm dismissal every day during Conferences.
