| STAR Testing - April 30th through May 10th | |  Article SubheadingSTAR testing dates have changed! Students in Grades 2 through 6 will now be taking very important tests as part of the California Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program on Tuesday, April 30th through Friday, May 10th. Parents/volunteers in these grades will not have access to the classrooms from 9:05-11:30am on these dates. Please arrive to school on time and schedule appointments for the afternoons. For more information on the tests your child will be taking, please download the STAR Testing Schedule.

| Movie Night - April 26th | | 
Come enjoy a free, family-friendly movie with other Holmes families on Friday, April 26th at 6:30pm in the Auditorium. The movie will be Wreck-It Ralph, Rated PG. Bring some low chairs or blankets and some friends! There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks, and drinks available for purchase. This free community event is sponsored by Holmes PTA.

| Dining for Dollars - April 27th | |  Article SubheadingTreat your family to lunch or dinner while supporting our school! Visit Rubio's (The Home of the Original Fish Taco) in Kearny Mesa on Saturday, March April 27th from 11am to 9pm. Dine in, take food To Go or pick up a Rubio's a-Go-Go Catering order.

| Raffle Basket Donations - Due May 1st | |

The Spring Fling Gift Baskets are an annual tradition at Holmes and the students love them! There will be 5 main baskets this year and you can donate to any that you choose. These will then be raffled off at Spring Fling. Please drop off your donations in the Office by Wednesday, May 1st.

| Spring Fling - May 11th | |  Article SubheadingOn Saturday, May 11th from 11am to 4pm we will be celebrating Holmes' 51st Birthday with the Spring Fling. This year's theme is "A Garden Party: Butterflies and Blooms". This will be another great community event that will have something for everyone to enjoy including: a Cake Show, a Student Art Show, our Silent Auction and Raffle Baskets. There will also be free arts and crafts for the kids, entertainment and food. Please be sure to come and bring your friends and family! |

Join Cub Scouts - May 2nd

Cub Scouting offers boys a year-round, family-oriented program that is filled with character-building activities. Holmes Cub Scout Pack 299 invites all boys in K-5th Grades and their families to learn more about scouting at our mini-Carnival and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, May 2nd at 6:30pm in the Holmes Auditorium.

| SSC and SGT Applications Due - May 3rd | |  Article Subheading
Are you interesting in helping support student achievement? We need your help to stay strong and vibrant as an educational community. Please consider becoming a member of our School Site Council (SSC) and Site Governance Team (SGT) for the 2013-14 school year. We need two parent volunteers to start in the Fall of 2013. For more information, download the Nomination Form and Overview of SSC and SGT. Please return with a Bio to the Front Office by Friday, May 3rd.

| Teacher Appreciation Week - May 6th to 10th | |  Article SubheadingTeachers play a key role in our child's academic success, and sometimes a simple "thanks" is all a teacher needs to feel valued. Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6th through May 10th) is the perfect time to personally thank our Holmes teachers for their sacrifices and support of our children throughout the year. Holmes has the best teachers in Clairemont! Let's show them how much we appreciate them this week. |

We invite you and/or your child to participate in a friendly competition of confection. Show off your talents and creativity by entering a cake designed in a "Spring Garden theme" for our 5th Annual Cake Decorating Competition during Spring Fling on May 11th.

| Sign up for Family Science Night - Due May 10th | |  Article Subheading
Family Science Night will be on Wednesday, May 29th at 6:30 - 8:00pm in the Holmes Auditorium. This hands on event, "Beyond the Magic", is put on by the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. We also need volunteers to help run the stations. This is a free event, sponsored by Holmes PTA. Space is limited - first come, first served.
For more information, to register and/or sign up to volunteer, download and return the Science Night Flyer to your child's teacher by May 10th.

| Madison Tri Mathlon - May 17th | | Article Subheading The Madison Community of Schools and Mathnasium Point Loma invite all 3rd-6th graders in the Madison cluster to join them for their Tri Mathlon on Friday, May 17th. This fun math contest is from 6:00 - 8:30pm at Madison High School. Prizes and raffles will be awarded! Download and return the Tri Mathlon Registration Form by May 11th. |
