Member survey results are in
The survey has closed and the results are in. Over 1,350 surveys were completed and KAR is wading through all the interesting outcomes. Representation was evenly spread across all 27 local associations. Did you know the majority or respondents (28.7%) have been in the business 20 years or more. Or that 58.9% are women and the average member is between 55 and 64 years old. More results will be presented at the Member Services Committee meeting at Convention.

ACA individual mandate rules released
In August, the U.S. Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued final regulations on the individual shared responsibility provisions, i.e. individual mandate, of the Affordable Care Act. Starting in 2014, the individual shared responsibility provision calls for each individual to have basic health insurance coverage, qualify for an exemption, or make a shared responsibility payment when filing a federal income tax return. Court to reconsider Fair Housing lawsuit
A federal appeals court examined whether an ad for a rental unit claiming that the unit was a "great bachelor pad" violated the federal Fair Housing Act ("FHA"). 2014 Legislative Session calendar released
The 2014 Legislative Session is a 60 day budget session and the Legislative Research Commission recently approved the 2014 Regular Session Calendar. Highlights of the 2014 calendar are as follows: - December 6, 2013 is the last day to request drafts of bills which will be pre-filed - December 13, 2013 is the last day to pre-file bills for introduction on the first day - Legislature Convenes: January 7, 2013 - Last day for a legislator to request a bill to be drafted: February 21, 2014 - Last day for House bills to be introduced: March 3, 2014 - Last day for Senate bills to be introduced: March 5, 2014 - Concurrence Days (this could change under suspension of the rules): March 28 & 31 - Veto session: April 1-11, 2014 - Legislature reconvenes: April 14, 2014 - Adjourns sine die: April 15 The legislative session cannot extend beyond April 15 unless the Governor calls a special session.
