Board actions at the Summer Business Meeting
This year's Summer Business Meeting at Lake Barkley was full of sunny weather and great camaraderie between almost 200 members from all across Kentucky. From the cook-out on Tuesday to the boat cruise and BBQ on Wednesday, members took time to discuss issues affecting real estate and handle association business. Here are the actions taken at the BOD meeting: - Approved KAR's Search Committee recommendation of Joe McClary to be hired as KAR's next executive officer. Hiring is expected to occur within the next 30-45 days.
- Approved changes to the policies and procedures relating to the yearly election process and candidate requests for contact information as well as nominating forms.
- Approved to hold the Leadership Conference in 2013 at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington on December 4 & 5.
- Approved to hold the 2015 KAR Convention & Expo in Owensboro with two possible hotels at comparable rates.
- Approved a change to the policies and procedures that all references to Executive Vice President be changed to Chief Executive Officer.
- Approved a change to the bylaws that all references to Executive Vice President be changed to Chief Executive Officer. (This motion will be voted on in September at the membership meeting. Click here to read the motion that is being presented).
- Approved sending $2000 to the Oklahoma Relief Foundation for the benefit of OK REALTORS who lost homes in the tornadoes.
- Approved consolidating all investments and reserves to the Investment Advisor as soon as procedurally possible with an asset allocation target of 30% Cash, 30% Bonds, 40% Stocks with 10% points variance above on stocks & bonds. Portfolio manager will have the ability to go 100% cash at their discretion.
- Approved changing the credit card policy to conform to a motion approved in September 2011.
- Approved $300 to use as incentive for the member survey.
Other items of note: - The government affairs committee revealed the launch of the KentuckyHomesMatter.com website (see article below).
- Jeff Smith announced that all brokers who are currently enrolled or enroll in the Broker Involvement Program prior to KAR Convention will be entered into a drawing for an iPad (see article to the right for details).
- A REALTOR Action Center app was released which alerts members to important legislative actions on the national level as well as provides an easy way to respond to Calls for Action. Check the app stores - it's a free download.
- In honor of the 100th anniversary for the Code of Ethics, a drawing was held for members who completed a COE quiz. Winners who scored a 100% and were drawn to receive a gift card were: Doug Myers, GLAR; Linda Boyd, Cynthiana/Harrison Co. Board; and Christine Morgan, RASKY.
- Open positions for KAR offices were announced and can be found on the website along with members who have submitted nomination forms.
- RPAC raised a total of $4000 during the meeting, much of it during the events on Thursday. Winners of the REALTOR Talent Show were Region 6 (first place) and Taylor and Allie (second place). Heads and Tails winner was Diane Wagers and Region 2 took home first place in the Six PAC competition.
- A special thanks to the Pennyrile Board and Region 1 for their hospitality and culinary skills on Tuesday and Wednesday.
