The CORE course is a six-hour continuing education course covering federal, state and common laws relating to real estate as well as recent license law updates that impact your license renewal and real estate practice. This course is required every four (4) years by all Kentucky licensees. Taking six hours of law and/or regular continuing education classes or a pre-license course will not substitute for this requirement. Please refer to the KREC website if you have further questions about this requirement or when it is due.

Actions from the KAR BOD Meeting      

Legislative & Business Meeting in Frankfort      


The meetings in Frankfort this past week took a different twist for KAR members as a new agenda was in play for the Hill Visits and many of the committee meetings. Speakers discussed issues important to the legislative process including results from a recent survey regarding tax reform in Kentucky, national mortgage settlement details, tax structure analysis and an update from KAR's new lobbying firm McCarthy Strategic Solutions. On Wednesday, KAR members participated a huge group photo in the Capitol, a Rally in the Capitol Rotunda with Rep. Thompson, Rep. Rand and Sen. Thayer, Hill Visits with legislators and a post-Hill Debriefing session where each region shared the outcomes of the discussions with legislators. The entire meeting was legislatively focused and brought with it much impact from members in attendance. The REALTOR voice was heard.

The following action was taken at the Thursday BOD meeting:  

  • Approved to hold the 2015 KAR Summer Meeting at Lake Barkley.
  • Approved KAR to become a Crystal R contributor by making a $2,500 contribution to NAR RPAC/PAF for 2013.
  • Approved the EVP search committee to spend up to $30,000 to hire a search firm to locate EVP candidates for KAR. Funds to include travel of candidates, mileage and reasonable expenses, consultant fees adn relocation expenses. The EVP search committee is Linda Moore (chair), Jim DeMaio, Toshie Murrell, Lemont Breland, Brad DeVries, Lisa Presley, Mary Anne Simmons, Nelson Rennekamp and Barbara Flannery.
  • Steve Cline was elected as a KAR At-Large Delegate.
  • Approved the appointment of a committee responsible for oversight of the Jess and Carolyn Kinman Award as follows: The committee shall be comprised of one representative from each KAR Region appointed by the KAR President-elect, and additional members comprised of the Government Affairs Committee Chairman and the RPAC Chairman and the Immediate Past Chairman. Chairman and Vice Chairman elected from the committee. Jim Sewell to serve as the first committee Chairman in 2014.
  • Approved changes to the KAR Policies & Procedures under Part Four: Delegates, Section 3. Distribution of Minutes and Part Four: Delegates, Section 2. Duties, Number 5. To view the Policies & Procedures, click here.
  • Approved change to the KAR Bylaws (during the membership meeting) under Article VII: Officers, Section 2. Qualifications for officer. To view the Bylaws, click here.
  • Approved a proposed change to the KAR Bylaws under Article V: Delegate Body, Section 4. In accordance with the KAR Bylaws, the KAR membership votes on all amendments to the Bylaws and are given at least 30 days notice prior to the vote. To view the amendment, click here.

  • NAR policy now requires that mediation services be offered upon receipt of a request for arbitration from members or general public. 
  • Member services committee is undertaking a comprehensive survey of the membership.

Nationwide Open House is back for 2013      

April 20 & 21, 2013
   

KAR is once again teaming up with associations across the country for one weekend of Nationwide Open Houses. The purpose is to encourage those who are thinking of buying a home to take advantage of unique home market factors including low interest rates, good selection of inventory and Kentucky's low cost of homeownership. REALTORS® should also take this opportunity to educate potential home buyers on the benefits of homeownership.

Appraisal courses now being offered online      


KREEF is now offering online appraisal courses through McKissock Online Education. These courses include the USPAP course as well as a selection of over 20 elective courses needed to complete the annual training requirements.

The classes are approved by the Appraisal Qualifying Board (AQB) and also approved for Continuing Education by the Kentucky Real Estate Appraisers Board.

March 1 deadline for COE completion     


Members who did not complete their Code of Ethics training requirements before the end of 2012 have until March 1 to complete training before their REALTOR membership is automatically terminated. Don't let that happen to you.

Apply for a KY REALTOR license plate 

  

KAR received approval from the state to produce an official KY specialty license plate. To start production, KAR needs to have 900 applications and fees collected. This is your chance to show off your REALTOR pride and support the real estate industry. Neighborhood DAP from KHC    

 

Do you have clients interested in purchasing a property in foreclosure or a home that has been on the market for six months or more? Then they may be eligible for a new financing option from Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC)!

The Neighborhood Down Payment Assistance Program (Neighborhood DAP) is funded through $3 million KHC received from the National Mortgage Foreclosure Settlement, and offers a new mortgage program for down payment and closing costs assistance. Neighborhood DAP provides a repayable second mortgage up to $10,000, with an interest rate of 1 percent for 30 years. The home buyer's income must be less than $124,775 and other terms and conditions apply.
