Front Row Experience!
This month we had a great opportunity to send volunteer teams to India to serve alongside our team of local leaders.  These volunteer teams came from two of our partnering churches - Connection Pointe Christian Church near Indianapolis, IN and Crossroads Fellowship Church in Odessa, Tx. We love sending teams to India! There is no better way to connect people with what God is doing in the world than to give them a front row experience - check out what some of these volunteers had to say about their experiences in India.

"The leader's stories are so captivating and come with such conviction.  These leaders are taking risks and sharing the Gospel while we are afraid to proclaim our faith in much safer confines at home.  They are the front lines while we merely attempt to dress their wounds."

"They also asked us to share in the midst of their testimonies.  It was a true blend of East meets West.  The Holy Spirit was clearly in the room and shined brightly during our second round of worship.  It was an awe inspiring time with fellow believers halfway across the globe.  Language barriers were no issue as we served the same Master."

"Following our teaching session we were blessed to visit a literacy center in one of the many Delhi slums.  The children were quite friendly and warmed up quickly to the team.  One of the most touching scenes during this visit were the two or three children who - when they received cookies as a special treat - instead of consuming them quickly went over to their grandfathers on the edge of the crowd and shared what they had received with loved ones.  That's a great analogy for what our partners at API see when people receive the gospel; they quickly share it with others, especially family."

From the Field
Beginnings of a movement in Haryana (near Delhi)

Recently our team in Delhi visited Haryana to explore the possibility of starting a new work in that State. They visited a small village that is apprx. 90 kilometers from Delhi.  This village used to be a Muslim dominated area, but now there are more dalits and a few families of the Jaat community living there. Bro. Rajesh is from this village and had attended our trainings. Rajesh is a laborer who works in the fields to earn his bread, but he is also very passionate about reaching the lost. After becoming a disciple, he underwent severe persecution: someone had desecrated the local temple and the blame was put on him. His brother's house was completely destroyed; he was ostracized. At the initial stage, Rajesh used to meet with believers for fellowship, under a tree in a field.

When attending a large training in Delhi, Bro. Rajesh brought with him 13 friends from his area, many of whom were reluctant to join him.  However, while attending the training in Delhi all of them were extremely blessed and moved.  Bro. Rajesh went back to his village with co-laborers and a team of disciples that were committed to making more disciples.  In a short amount of time there have been 16 house churches planted in Haryana.  Simple men and women of faith obeying God and teaching others to do the same.  Pray for this new work in Haryana - that the good news of Jesus will spread quickly and powerfully!

A Question of Faith

The Scriptures contain hundreds of questions that come directly from the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.  We are using this newsletter in 2013 to discover how some of these questions apply to us.  Specifically, we are examining what I'm calling "Questions of Faith".  Since God is asking these questions, should we be prepared to give an answer?

The question this month comes from Exodus 4:11-12 - Who gave man his mouth?  Who makes him deaf or mute?  Who gives him sight or makes him blind?  Is it not I, the Lord? Now go and I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.

Let's take a step back from the question in Exodus 4:11-12 to get the context.  God was "calling" Moses.  What were the details about this "call"?

  1. The call came directly from Jehovah. Moses had no doubts that the Creator of the Universe was talking directly to him (Exodus 3:4-6).
  2. What was God calling Moses to do?  Go back to Egypt and lead the nation of Israel out of slavery, and back to the Promised Land.
  3. How did Moses respond?
  • First reaction - "who am I?" - Exodus 3:11.  Moses is saying "I'm not qualified.  I'm not educated enough.  I am powerless.  I'm just a simple shepherd."
  • Second reaction - denial.  Exodus 3:13 tells us that Moses is questioning the validity of his call.  Basically, he is asking God "who is this really?  How do I know that this is really God speaking to me?"
  • Third reaction - give me a sign.  Exodus 4:1 shows us that Moses is still struggling with this call from God.  What can I tell people to get them to believe me?  God, can you give me a sign?
  • Fourth reaction - God, you asked me to be your spokesperson, but I have a problem speaking.  I have a speech impediment (Exodus 4:10).
  • Fifth reaction - Please send someone else (Exodus 4:13).  Lord, I really don't want to do this thing that you have called me to do.  I have a nice, comfortable life, and I don't want to leave my comfort zone.

At the end of the day, it is a Question of Faith.  Who gave man his mouth?  Who makes him deaf or mute?  Who gives him sight or makes him blind?  Is it not I, the Lord? Now go and I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.  God told Moses to GO, and He would take care of the rest. Moses finally obeyed.  He left Midian with his family and brother Aaron, and went back to Egypt.  And the rest is history.  God saved the nation of Israel from the angel of death on the night of Passover because the blood of an unblemished, sacrificed lamb was painted with hyssop on the door frames of their houses (Ex 12:22).  The nation of Israel walked to freedom through those same doors the next day, empowered and enabled by the blood of the lamb. What is God calling us to do?
