NOTE FROM BILLY
Good Monday,

It was a busy weekend with a lot of happenings!

Friday I met with "Partners for Reconstruction" and a foundation executive to discuss potential funding for the proposed Reconstruction Interpretative Hub in Beaufort. Then I visited Bolden Middle School on Laurel Bay to present certificates to our Young Leaders of Beaufort graduates, attended a luncheon recognizing lowcountry leaders and taped part of a TV production on climate change.

Saturday morning I welcomed a group assembled by The Medical University of South Carolina and SC Education at Penn Center that focused on rising sea levels. In the afternoon, there was a very special celebration of our community's beloved Pat Conroy at the Waterfront Park.

Sunday I attended women's day at Grace Chapel AME on Charles Street,  the Beaufort Symphony Orchestra's finale concert for the season and the met with community leaders who greeted students from The University of the South who are in Beaufort for a May-mester with College President John McCardell.

I continue to marvel at how much there is to do in our wonderful city.

Today I have posts answering a few concerns about business license modifications passed by City Council, the storage of nuclear waste in our state, and an interesting shoe design by students at Robert Smalls International Academy.

Every time I visit one of our schools I see students and teachers working hard. I wonder why our schools get such a bad rap.  It would be nice if the news media, parents and others would talk about some of the many good things taking place in our schools.  The students and their teachers have earned it.

Have a wonderful week,
