Good Monday,
I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend as I did with friends visiting from out of town.
There is a lot in this week's newsletter, not the least of which are notes and dates relative to the in-progress Beaufort Code, the celebration of our success in stopping offshore seismic testing and drilling and the importance of offering to volunteer for the short term rental task force if you bring any experience and a willingness to serve.
Since this is the fifth Tuesday of the month and we only meet on the second, third and fourth Tuesdays, there will be no council meetings. However, that does not mean council members will not be working as we are all engaged in Redevelopment Commission Projects throughout each week.
As we read about the rush of new residents moving to the Southeast Coast, I would like your thoughts on how we maintain "authenticity" which I believe is one of the key principles that makes Beaufort stand out as special. Also, consider how we best attract newcomers who can bring businesses to the area. I love retirees coming to Beaufort as they are good customers, contribute to the diversity and cultural activities of the city. At the same time, if we are to retain those who grew up here, we must attract better jobs. I believe the two go hand in hand, since we need help identifying and recruiting more and better jobs.
Finally, not unlike most weeks in Beaufort, there is so much to do.
Have a great week in Beautiful Beaufort.
