Dear Neighbor

Yes, another email when you thought I was finished?  I also thought I was finished . . . . until I heard that our friend John Tecklenburg has a campaign debt. Given his surge that led to an overwhelming victory I understand the debt because the campaign lit up the fires at the end leading to a surge that surprised many.

Accordingly, I am writing because I am concerned that John will start his service with a campaign debt. And, through my experience directing statewide campaigns, I understand how debt can be distracting and should be closed out before one takes the oath of office.

I know John would like to be on the phone, first thanking you personally for your help and then asking for support required to retire the deb.  But, as I am sure you understand,  right now he is up to his ears in getting ready to serve: meeting with department heads to ensure a seamless working relationship on day one, meeting with each member of City Council, interviewing candidates for the very few staff positions he will fill, and completing his personal business affairs before he takes the oath as a full time mayor.

When John announced he was new to this game, had no established donor base, sought no special interest support and refused to take PAC money. He did an incredible job, thanks to many of you, and raised a huge amount of money. That said, at the end of the runoff, John's campaign has a debt which some of his friends and supporters hope we can clear up before January 10th.

Accordingly, I am asking you to reach into your pocket once more. Every bit will help.

The maximum for each individual is $2000 (which is $1000 for the General Election and $1000 for the Runoff Election), so that a couple could contribute $4,000 total ($2000 per person).  Also, the maximum is $2000 per business or legal entity ($1000 for the General Election and $1000 for the Runoff Election).  Any family member (over 18 years of age) can also contribute a maximum of $2000.

Like me, my close friends and siblings, you may have already given the maximum allowed under the law.  If you have maxed out, perhaps you can find a family member, business associate or business that has not.

I hate the burden of money in politics, but without it one cannot be competitive.  John raised money, came from behind with a stunning victory and his campaign needs to raise just a little more. So that is why I am reaching out to you this final time and would appreciate whatever you can do to help.

In closing, I want to wish you and yours best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season and a healthy and prosperous 2016.

Sincerely,

Billyk

PS - No contribution is too small, though larger ones will help us meet our deadline more quickly.

Please note that from the runoff  forward each check or online donation must be earmarked for "Debt Reduction" and it must be so stated on your check or online donation.
