As of tomorrow, summer is officially here and it is beginning to look like summer at the Market. The strawberries are extra good this year and selling like hot cakes. We are also seeing a lot of other great produce showing up as well. Here's what's up this week:

Johnston Farms will have their first picking of spinach!! Yahoo!! First picking of strawberries too! Radish bunches $2 each or 2/ $3.00!! You know you can eat the radish greens...fresh in salad or saute them in butter or your favorite oil with garlic scapes and onion and top with balsamic vinegar and some nuts!! Yuuumy!

Nash's has strawberries coming atchya for jam, freezing, dehydrating, syrup, margaritas, or just plain eating... time to get your berry love on! New this week, garlic scapes! Finally that tender delicious garlic rope has arrived bringing us to the special veg of the week: everybody's favorite, give a big round of applause for FAVA BEANS!! They are on sale for the low, low price of $2.49/lb, that's $0.50 off per pound! Check out this recipe for garlic scapes, basil and favas:

Fava Bean Hummus

1 cup fava beans (removed from pods,
   blanched and peeled)

1 bunch garlic scapes, roasted

4 tablespoons olive oil

Lemon juice to taste (optional)

Salt to taste

Basil to taste (optional)

Preheat the oven to 375 F. Cut the scapes into 3"- 4" pieces, toss with a little oil and place them on a cookie sheet and roast for about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let them cool down. Once cooled, place all ingredients in a food processor or blender and pulse till combined. If you use a blender, you may need more oil to make the consistency smooth. You can also add a sprig or two of basil as you blend it for extra flavor. Salt to taste and you are there!

Clark Farms grass fed, grass finished beef marrow bones are on special this weekend.  Regularly $2.89 a pound, this weekend  for $2.50 a pound.  Make stock or broth, savor the marrow, add marrow bones to meats you plan to braise.Bones cooked in this way are rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and trace minerals, and contain glucosamine and chondroiton. The minerals in stock and broth are easily absorbed by the body and have been used therapeutically by the Chinese for centuries. How ya gonna beat that? Time to stock up.

Just a reminder: The Wednesday summer market is open! It can be hard to stretch all the great food you get from the market to make it last a week and the Wednesday market solves that problem. Come on down on your lunch break or just come on down and keep your summer fridge full of fresh, locally grown foods. We'll be waitin' for ya!

Do you go downtown to watch the parade on the 4th of July?? Why not participate in the parade instead of just being an observer? Come walk the parade route with your friends from the PA Farmers Market. We'll be dressing up in our best farm wear, veggie costumes and...who knows what else to "walk the walk" and show our town that our farmers, producers and artisans are real American heroes. Small farms and businesses are what makes this country great and we want to celebrate that on our Independence Day. Come join us and show your support. RSVP appreciated by reply to this email. It's gonna be TOO MUCH FUN!

Musical guest this week is Howly Slim and Friends so come on down and have a listen.
