No foolin', the Market is picking up, the forecast is excellent for a perfect spring season and THAT'S a good thing!
This Saturday is the first of our once monthly "Blue Sale Tag Saturday." The first weekend of each month participating vendors will put something wonderful on sale for the day. Sale items will be marked with a large, blue, laminated tag so they are easy to find. Take a walk around the whole market to see what is a steal of a deal!
To kick off "Sale Saturday" Nash's will have nettles for $7.99/lb...that's $2 off the regular price! Nettles are high in vitamins C and K, are a good source of iron and may be helpful to people who are suffering allergies this time of year. You've been asking for them
and now we have them. Nash's will also have all of their great raabs and purple sprouting broccoli, which is like broccolini and can be prepared the same as you would asparagus. Devon says Nash's will also have recipes available for Nettle Pesto so stop by and check it out!
Clark Farms is also springing into sale mode offering grass fed and grass finished T-bone steaks and rib steaks, regularly $15.69 a pound, blue tagged at $14.50/lb. That's a nice savings! Did you
know grass fed, grass finished beef has less total fat overall and is rich in health promoting fats including omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid? In fact, according to a USDA and a Clemson University study in 2009, grass fed, grass finished beef is richer in Vitamin E, beta-carotene and Vitamin C than conventional beef that has been finished on grains. Man, we're getting smart, aren't we?
The City Council joins us this weekend for their monthly "meet and greet" so come on down and have a chat.
Here's a tip: If you need information about services for seniors you can dial 211 and be directed to a real human in Olympia that can get you to the right office for that info. I discovered this while trying, in vain, to find out when the Senior Nutrition Program checks were going to be issued. The gal that helped me was very friendly and got me right to the office I needed here in Port Angeles. Now that is a handy thing to know!
