Happy Valentines Day everyone!
Holly Clark asks: Forgot Valentine's Day this year?!...Get out of "The Dog House" with a Clark Farms steak or two. Choose from fabulous sirloins, rib steaks, T-bones, Porterhouses or tenderloin. Want something different? Try tri tip steak for $10.99 a pound. This great tasting steak is the size of a small roast just under 2 pounds and can be cooked on the stove top, in the broiler or even on the barbeque. Lynn at Renaissance tells me that OLD GOUDA HAS RETURNED!! This cheese has been aged at least 14 months and is a sharp white cheese that is harder than regular Gouda. Because of the longer aging process, those yummy crunch little crystals have formed and give it a little extra texture. I love that. They will also have their herbed curds, (say THAT three times fast!). The curds are infused with rosemary, garlic, oregano, thyme and black pepper. Hmmm...I wonder if anyone has ever made poutine with these. I think I'll try it!
If you have not tried SpringRain Farms'[ chicken yet, why not roast one up this weekend. They have a wonderful texture and real chickeny flavor you will enjoy. Yesterday I picked up some yellow curry and I am going to use the leftover chicken that I have along with some potatoes, carrots and onions to make a flavorful, mild Thai curry. Then I'll use the carcass to make soup. No waste; I like that! Starting this Saturday we will begin having a weekly drawing at the Market and the winner will receive a $10 market token. Here's how it works: You drop by the manager's booth with $1 and a business card and you drop them into a big jar we will have. At the end of each market we will draw a name and that person will receive the $10 token for that week. If you don't have a business card, we will have blank ones for you to fill out with your name and phone number. Obviously this is a fundraiser for the Market but will also benefit our customers. We hope you will find this to be a fun way to support the Market while enjoying the anticipation of the drawing! If you have any questions, just stop by the manager's booth and we'll answer them for you. Our wonderful customer, Eycke Strickland sent me a report a few days ago about the upcoming Supreme Court case of Bowman vs. Monsanto. The report was done by The Center for Food Safety and The Save Our Seeds initiative. The case concerns Monsanto's prosecution of 75-year-old Indiana farmer Vernon Hugh Bowman. The company alleges that Mr. Bowman infringed upon its seed patents by purchasing and planting undifferentiated seeds from a grain elevator. This is a really interesting report that reveals the strong arm tactics being used by corporate agriculture to muscle out independent farmers. You can read the report here. Need a recipe?
