On May 20th, 2015, Mike Babcock was announced as the new head coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He earned himself an eight-year deal worth $50 million, making him the highest paid coach in NHL history. Reaching this level in your career could easily boost your ego to a point where you're oblivious to your own flaws, but that's where Babcock took action. He decided to hire a special assignment coach, Jacques Lemaire, to check his blind spots and keep him from becoming vulnerable to hubris.

Exposing your blind spots is essential for continued growth for more than one reason;
  •  At higher levels you're more vulnerable to make mistakes. Having a mentor or someone watching your back can be pivotal in preventing those mistakes.
  • Surrounding yourself with people just as smart or smarter than you provides you with a greater pool of ideas to work with and allows everyone to keep each other's egos in check.

Babcock has ensured his future success thanks to working with great minds like Lemaire.  Who do you have watching your blind spots?

To your success,
