HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM TGS!
We wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving, and we hope you have a wonderful holiday break from tomorrow through Monday, November 30.

TGS HEAD OF SCHOOL SEARCH UPDATE
Dear TGS Community:

The search committee roster has been set. Thank you to all of the volunteers for offering their service for this important work.

The committee:
Faculty-Staff: Jessica Sardinas, Hop (Paul Hopkins), Kimberly Corwin Gray
Parents: Robert Boylan, Pedr Seymour, Katherine Cook, Nancy Brooks
Board: Justin Sterner, Katherine Wagenbach, Fanning Hearon, Peter Eden, chair

Also, we were impressed by the response to the survey, which was designed to generate an understanding of the key qualities and traits the community seeks in a HOS. We saw many perspectives and good suggestions, summarized here:  Almost universally, folks understood that challenges in enrollment, the business model, and fund-raising exist, and thus capabilities and experience related to these areas are extremely important. Also, responses showed that a HOS eager to connect meaningfully and consistently with students, faculty, staff, parents, and others, and one able to set plans and execute those plans with faculty and staff, would be successful. A desire to see in the new HOS a kind, compassionate educator who has a passion for young learners, who is a good listener, and who can unify the School's message and constituents to one common goal, came through in the responses.  The community also confirmed the feeling that the many positive elements and tremendous opportunities at TGS far outweigh the challenges for our School.

The survey feedback is being used to create the position profile, which is an expanded advertisement of sorts, which sets the agenda for the HOS, etc., and which will be uploaded along with other search information to the TGS website soon. This profile will be available to all, and will be important for the applicants and viable candidates.

The search committee will begin to review the initial batch of applications very shortly.  Please look for more updates soon, as well as notices regarding possible meetings at TGS to discuss the search process. Our goal is to make this as above board and transparent as possible, without risking confidentiality for applicants.

The Board of Trustees thanks you all for sticking together during this time. We thank you for your deliberate efforts to make the next seven months a successful and positive period at TGS.

NO SCHOOL NOVEMBER 25-30
A reminder that there will be no school from Wednesday, November 25 through Monday, November 30, for the Thanksgiving holiday and faculty inservice.

CONCERT DECORATORS MEETING DEC. 2
We will meet in the auditorium on Wednesday, December 2 at 8:30am to plan decorations for the Winter Concerts. All our welcome!

TGS SKI SKATE SALE DECEMBER 3
The ski/skate sale will be held in the auditorium on Thursday, December 3, from 3-5pm. This is an opportunity to donate and buy used ski equipment (XC, alpine, and snowboard) and skates for the winter. We are looking for current model skis, skates, boots, and clean apparel. Please contact Mary
if you have items to donate. We suggest a donation to TGS of at least 20% of the sale price, and you keep the rest. Please label all equipment with your name, price, and percentage you'd like to keep, and bring equipment to the kitchen door outside the midi lab.

SKIING AND AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS
We have begun to outfit students with XC ski equipment for the winter. Because supplies are limited, please let Mary know soon if you are interested in purchasing equipment for your child.

All students need XC ski equipment to participate in winter PSD. In general, this includes boots and skis for students in grades K-8 and boots, skis, and poles for students in grades 1-8. This year TGS is changing how we help provide ski equipment: we will offer skis, boots, and poles for sale. TGS has a limited supply of equipment this year, so please check with Mary soon if you are interested in purchasing ski gear through the school. If you purchase your equipment from TGS, you will be able to sell the equipment back to us at the end of the season for a reduced price. We are not offering equipment rentals this year.

If you are not able to find equipment through TGS, XC skis also are available at West Hill Shop in Putney and Burrows Specialized Sports in Brattleboro.

Tuesday Ski Days
For six Tuesday afternoons in January and February, TGS students will have the opportunity to alpine ski or snowboard at Okemo or cross country ski at Grafton Ponds and other local venues. We will have more details about time and costs for these programs in late November.

The Okemo program is for students seven years and up and is a parent chaperone run program and requires parent oversight.

From BKL coordinator Hans Estrin:
Remember our first extra official BKL Practice is Wed, Dec. 2, after Thanksgiving, after hunting season.

Location: The Putney School (as of now)
Time: Practice will run from 3:30-5:00pm, followed by a potluck from 5:00-6:30pm(building location TBA)

Activity: Our current plan (thanks to TGS parent Sarah Sterner) is an intro/ warm-up followed by a multi-age team  "Spartan relay" that may include any number of crazy challenges including log-dragging, fence-climbing, rope-swinging, piggy-backing, mud-slinging and butt-sliding.

Potluck!  Bring some food or drink to share!  We will have tables and paper plates, etc. On-campus location TBA.  We will also have older uniforms and jackets to rent/distribute...and who knows what else!

I will update you all next week!

BABY CARRIER DRIVE
Do you have a gently used soft structured carrier (such as Ergo or Baby Bjorn, but any brand is fine) that you no longer need? I am collecting baby carriers for the organization Carry the Future, which provides them to Syrian refugees once they come to shore in Greece. To find out more about this organization, visit their website: http://www.carrythefuture.org. In addition to the carrier, you can also send socks, a hat, a small stuffed animal, and other comfort items that can fit in the carrier's pocket. You also may want to include a note for the family that will ultimately receive the carrier. Questions? Please email jenniferjacobs14@gmail.com. You can put the carrier in Jasper's cubby or contact me and I will come pick it up.
Thank you!
