GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Last week we held our annual Foreign Language night. It was great to see many of you here as we celebrated foreign language at TGS and the creative accomplishments of our students. Many thanks to Madame Jo, Paqui, and the many parent volunteers who helped make the event educational, entertaining, and lively.
Today students in grades 5-8 began the fall tradition of skating at Vermont Academy as a component of PSD, and the activity will continue for the next three Wednesdays. It is a great opportunity for students to skate with their teachers and other students while they learn new techniques and improve their skills. From all reports, the ice was perfect today and everyone had a good experience. This afternoon marks the official start of the Bill Koch League dry land practices and we hope to see many TGS students join the activity. On Thursday, November 12, we welcomed Director of Admissions Justin Altman and Amanda Upton's daughter Daisy West to the TGS community. We can't wait to meet the newest member of TGS class of 2028! The 8th grade is currently in Boston on their annual trip to study US Colonial history. A reminder that there will be no school from Wednesday, November 25 through Monday, November 30, for the Thanksgiving holiday and faculty inservice.

DECORATORS NEEDED
We are looking for volunteer decorators to help beautify the auditorium for the holiday concerts on December 8 and 15. Please contact Apple if you are interested in helping to decorate. Thank you!
TGS SKI SKATE SALE DECEMBER 3 The ski/skate sale will be held in the auditorium on Thursday, December 3, from 3-5pm. This is an opportunity to donate and buy used ski equipment (XC, alpine, and snowboard) and skates for the winter. We are looking for current model skis, skates, boots, and clean apparel. Please contact Mary if you have items to donate. We suggest a donation to TGS of at least 20% of the sale price, and you keep the rest. Please label all equipment with your name, price, and percentage you'd like to keep, and bring equipment to the kitchen door outside the midi lab.
SKIING AND AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS
We have begun to outfit students with XC ski equipment for the winter. Because supplies are limited, please let Mary know soon if you are interested in purchasing equipment for your child.
All students need XC ski equipment to participate in winter PSD. In general, this includes boots and skis for students in grades K-8 and boots, skis, and poles for students in grades 1-8. This year TGS is changing how we help provide ski equipment: we will offer skis, boots, and poles for sale. TGS has a limited supply of equipment this year, so please check with Mary soon if you are interested in purchasing ski gear through the school. If you purchase your equipment from TGS, you will be able to sell the equipment back to us at the end of the season for a reduced price. We are not offering equipment rentals this year.
If you are not able to find equipment through TGS, XC skis also are available at West Hill Shop in Putney and Burrows Specialized Sports in Brattleboro. Tuesday Ski Days For six Tuesday afternoons in January and February, TGS students will have the opportunity to alpine ski or snowboard at Okemo or cross country ski at Grafton Ponds and other local venues. We will have more details about time and costs for these programs in late November.
The Okemo program is for students seven years and up and is a parent chaperone run program and requires parent oversight.

The silver is a little tarnished, but the pads, rods, and springs look new and it plays well. There's no low B, so not for professional, but great high school instrument, especially for someone who wants to keep up their flute playing in the future as a hobby. From Katherine Herrle, Black River Middle School High School
