GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
TGS welcomed five prospective students to campus today. As always, our students were open and welcoming to our visitors.
This afternoon at All School Meeting, buddy groups will fill Thanksgiving baskets with holiday food items donated by each class. Buddies will make cards to decorate the baskets, which will be given to the Putney Food Shelf. This community service has been an annual event at TGS for almost a decade.
Parent musician Peter Siegel will lead an all school sing at ASM this afternoon at 2:15. As always, we invite parents to join us at All School Meeting.
Students who have enrolled in aftercare continue to be enthusiastic about their experience. Parents who are interested in trying this creative, nature based program should contact Tammy, as spaces are limited. Some of you may have noticed Olympians Noah Hoffman and Sophie Caldwell on campus yesterday afternoon. They came to guest coach a new after school program run by the Putney Ski Club that focuses on ski specific skills and fitness training. It's great to see this group of kids outside running, playing, and having fun while working hard. I hope many of you will be able to join me tomorrow morning for coffee.
COFFEE WITH DAN
Coffee with Dan will be tomorrow at drop off in his office.
WE NEED YOUR INPUT for TGS Head of School Search Update
Dear Community of Faculty, Staff, Parents: As you know, the search for a new HOS is underway and volunteers for the search committee (which will be officially formed in a week or so) are appearing now. An important step, as we collect applications, is to create the position profile, which is a more comprehensive description of the opportunity, the excitement, and the challenges related to this position at TGS. The profile simultaneously allows viable candidates to fully appreciate the opportunity and it allows us to identify the key attributes desired, the accomplishments we expect, etc. To create this prospectus, we need 1) input from the community, and 2) a small team to create the document.
FYI, on or around Friday of this week (or certainly early next week at the latest) you will receive an email message with a link to a Survey Monkey SHORT survey. Please take 5 minutes to fill out this survey, as it will allow your voice to be heard regarding the desired HOS qualities and more. After we receive responses, a very small "writing team" consisting of a few trustees and a few faculty/staff members will create the position profile. This profile will be uploaded to our website and deliberately provided to candidates.
We still aim to hold an open session, and we are looking at dates for such right now. But, the survey will be our immediate tool for input.
WE NEED YOUR INPUT so please, when you see the survey link emerge, take some time to fill it out and submit.
Thank you!
FOREIGN LANGUAGE EVENING TOMORROW!
Foreign Language Evening is back! Come and be entertained by an evening of student made movies on Thursday, November 12. Grades 4-8 will perform, but all grades are welcome!
Performance time is 6:30 - 8:00pm in the theater space. Students should be at the Lower School at 6:15pm.
This year, students of Spanish and French will treat you to a glimpse of the world of comic strips in the French and Spanish speaking worlds!
A small after dinner treat from France and Spain will be served. Parents, please be sure children have eaten before the event.
WINTER SPORTS UPDATES
All students need XC ski equipment to participate in winter PSD. In general, this includes boots and skis for students in grades K-8 and boots, skis, and poles for students in grades 1-8. This year TGS is changing how we help provide ski equipment: we will offer skis, boots, and poles for sale. TGS has a limited supply of equipment this year, so please check with Mary soon if you are interested in purchasing ski gear through the school. If you purchase your equipment from TGS, you will be able to sell the equipment back to us at the end of the season for a reduced price. We are not offering equipment rentals this year.
TGS will hold a ski/skate sale in the auditorium on Thursday, December 3, from 3-5pm. This is an opportunity to donate and buy used ski equipment (XC, alpine, and snowboard) and skates for the winter.
If you are not able to find equipment through TGS, XC skis also are available at West Hill Shop in Putney and Burrows Specialized Sports in Brattleboro.
Tuesday Ski Days
For six Tuesday afternoons in January and February, TGS students will have the opportunity to alpine ski or snowboard at Okemo or cross country ski at Grafton Ponds and other local venues. We will have more details about time and costs for these programs in late November.
The Okemo program is for students seven years and up and is a parent chaperone run program and requires parent oversight.
