GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Please join me in welcoming Asher Joseph to TGS. Asher started in the preschool on Tuesday and is our newest member of the TGS community. Welcome Asher!
Many parents have reached out to inquire about how they can offer support for Kathy. We will be in touch soon regarding ways that will best help Kathy and her family. Thank you for your kind gestures during this challenging time.
We officially ended our fall athletic season last week with a very wet TGS XC Invitational. Despite driving rain and cold temperatures, our harriers ran well and TGS was very well represented in both participation and performance! I want to thank Mary for all she did to make this race, and our fall sports, a success. I am glad we persevered and had the race despite the ominous weather forecast, and I look forward to more great races in the future as we keep this strong tradition alive.
TGS HOS SEARCH UPDATE
Dear TGS Community: As outlined in our letter this past Friday, October 30 (refer to email originating from Dan on the 30th), TGS will start a search immediately in order to secure our next head of school (HOS) to start July, 2016. An open search is a prudent and important process as it allows an organization to create a pool of potential and viable candidates, which manages any risks in ultimately securing one individual (read: a pool of viable finalists is needed in case the #1 choice does not work out for whatever reason). We aim to provide very frequent updates regarding the search plan and process, so please see below some information, further to the note and details provided this past Friday.
1) Right now we are receiving requests to serve, and these are being compiled. Within a week or so, we will identify from this list of volunteers a roster that provides distribution across TGS, e.g. we want to make sure we do not have representation only from parents, faculty and/or staff from, say, the lower school, with little representation from the upper school. The search committee members will be determined from the list of volunteers by the board executive committee.
2) The advertisement is going out right now. The position profile will be created within a week or two. We will likely circulate a survey so that feedback from parents, faculty, and staff can be gathered regarding qualities and capabilities they see as important in our next HOS and which will be used for the position profile, in addition to some open sessions we will plan this month.
3) We hope to have applications for review by December, and aim to conduct phone interviews over the holiday period. Finalists will be invited to campus - where everyone will meet them - in late winter/early spring.
Thank you for your support as we start this important search. And thank you in general for staying positive about this process and about our wonderful TGS during this transition year.

SPORTS UPDATES
We finished up the fall sports season with the TGS Invitational last Wednesday. Congratulations to the more than 80 runners from TGS, BAMS, Putney Central, Academy, and Ludlow who ran through the mud and wet grass on a cold, rainy afternoon! I was so impressed with the smiles and positive attitudes of all the runners and their coaches.
Please return all soccer jerseys and running singlets to Mary this week.
Lollipoppers start their run!
WINTER PSD
Cross country (XC) skiing has been part of TGS since the school's founding in 1960, providing students with the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in winter and develop skills that they can use throughout their lives.
All students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade participate in XC skiing for their winter PSD. During their weekly PSD classes, students and teachers ski together on the groomed trails in the woods and fields on campus.
All students need XC ski equipment to participate in winter PSD. In general, this includes boots and skis for students in grades K-8 and boots, skis, and poles for students in grades 1-8. This year TGS is changing how we help provide ski equipment: we will offer skis, boots, and poles for sale. TGS has a limited supply of equipment this year, so please check with Mary soon if you are interested in purchasing ski gear through the school. If you purchase your equipment from TGS, you will be able to sell the equipment back to us at the end of the season for a reduced price. We are not offering equipment rentals this year.
TGS will hold a ski/skate sale in the auditorium on Thursday, December 3, from 3-5pm. This is an opportunity to donate and buy used ski equipment (XC, alpine, and snowboard) and skates for the winter.
If you are not able to find equipment through TGS, XC skis also are available at West Hill Shop in Putney and Burrows Specialized Sports in Brattleboro.
Tuesday Ski Days
For six Tuesday afternoons in January and February, TGS students will have the opportunity to alpine ski or snowboard at Okemo or cross country ski at Grafton Ponds and other local venues. We will have more details about time and costs for these programs in late November.
The Okemo program is for students seven years and up and is a parent chaperone run program and requires parent oversight.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE EVENING NOVEMBER 12
Foreign Language Evening is back! Come and be entertained by an evening of student made movies on Thursday, November 12. Grades 4-8 will perform, but all grades are welcome!
Performance time is 6:30 - 8:00pm in the theater space. Students should be at the Lower School at 6:15pm.
Do you love comics? Do Snoopy, Zits, or Calvin and Hobbes tickle your funny bone? Have you enjoyed the adventures of Superman and Wonderwoman? Ever wonder what comic strips people in other countries read?
This year, students of Spanish and French will treat you to a glimpse of the world of comic strips in the French and Spanish speaking worlds!
A small after dinner treat from France and Spain will be served. Parents, please be sure children have eaten before the event.
