GREETINGS FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Today marked our first Buddy Activity, when students met to hang their wish strips on the lilacs at the school's entrance and then shared lunch with their buddies. This program is one example of our integrated social curriculum, which helps to forge strong cross grade connections among all of our students. I hope you'll take a moment to read the students' wish strips at drop off or pickup and get a sense of the sincere dreams they have for the world ahead.
Tomorrow I hope many of you will be able to attend our first Head of School Coffee in the Library at 8:30am. These open meetings are an opportunity to get an update on school activities and initiatives and ask questions. All are welcome.
There are countless opportunities for parent volunteering at TGS, and everyone's efforts are appreciated. Thanks to all of you who have filled out the volunteer survey that is available through the link on our parents page. This survey is a living link, and we are encouraging people to fill it out so that we can best match interests and skills with our many volunteering opportunities. We have had a number of people already express interest in helping with our costume loft. Before we make decisions about how the loft will be staffed and managed this year, we want to be sure that we hear from everyone interested in this critical role. Please send me an email if you would like to be involved.
Our driveway can be challenging to navigate at drop off and pickup time, and I want to reiterate how important it is to follow the posted speed limits at TGS and to back into your space. Thank you for being vigilant and for keeping the safety of our students in mind.
I hope to see you all at the Potluck on Friday! Dan
ALL SCHOOL POTLUCK - 5:30PM FRIDAY Everyone is invited to the All School Potluck on Friday, September 18 at 5:30pm in the auditorium. SOURCE TO SEA CLEAN UP SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 FROM 9AM-12PM
To show our appreciation for our rivers, and in support of this year's Global Education Theme of water, TGS is sponsoring a river cleanup team for the Connecticut River Watershed Council's annual Source to Sea cleanup. The "TGS River Stewards" will join with the Southeastern Vermont Watershed Alliance to clean up swimming holes and river banks along the West River. Those interested in being part of a floating cleanup crew can join us in canoes and kayaks to clean up the Retreat Meadows and a portion of the Connecticut River from the confluence with the West to the Hinsdale marina (just below the Whetstone Station).
For more details about Source to Sea cleanup project visit the website. Meet at the Dummerston covered bridge on Route 30 at 9am on Saturday, 9/26. If you want to join the floating cleanup crew, or if you have any other questions about this clean-up project, please email Jennifer Jacobs.
